Karma Bit Us Them In the Ass

Without implicating anyone I know, lets say that “Jenni” and her husband “Tater” and their two children “Cart” and “Ellie” were in a little fender bender recently. Said fender bender was not their fault and they were issued a check from the other driver’s insurance company.

As it turned out, “Tater” was able to easily buff out the scuff on the fender, leaving them with this insurance check.

“Tater” and I “Jenni” started dreaming of ways to spend this ill-received money…a new digital camera or money towards another laptop or maybe just put it in the bank.

They decided to go for a new digital camera, one with 10 megapixels and a large screen and image stabilization. Oh how excited they were, dreaming of the beautiful photos they’d soon be able to take! The moments they would capture! They couldn’t wait to make their camera purchase with the insurance check.

Until later that evening when the garage door decided to go kaput. So much for spending the money on a digital camera.

F*cking karma. “Tater” and “Jenni” have learned their lesson.

Finding Peace at the Beach

Yesterday, I let go.

It’s rare that I engage in risky behavior, especially the type of behavior that could lead to major regret on my part. Most outings with my children as of late fall into the category of risky, since they have left me stressed, sweating, and vowing to never take them in public again. EVER.

But Sunday morning was beautiful and sunny. And the thought of spending the day inside doing the same things I do everyday…ugh.

So we took a huge risk and loaded two very small children in the car and headed out on our adventure, to the beach. (Again, we have two very small children… a toddler dangling ever too close to the brink of the terrible twos and a recently emergent colic survivor).

Very risky indeed. But so very worth it.

There is something to be said for sea air, sand, and salt water. It works wonders on your psyche. And on your children.

I Went HogHer ‘07

Meeting Notes “Twitter style” from HogHer ‘07

Very important women and blogging issues discussed…

**Talk of pubic hair and bodily functions at dinner table makes Sara nervous. See picture below.

**Discussion of attending next year’s BlogHer conference…hope it will be in Mobile. But would take Atlanta. Actually location doesn’t matter.

**Purchasing a jumbo drink at the movie theatre is the same as a free pass to see as many movies as you’d like. This info courtesy of Megan at Velveteen Mind. This, too, makes Sara nervous.

**Downloading movies off the Internet, even before their release, DOES NOT make Sara nervous….interesting. Very interesting…

**Tate would like to have a third child. Tate may need to find new wife.

**Having a third child would mess with a family’s ability to ride roller coasters. Someone would have to ride with Mom and apparently this is not cool. And a very important reason NOT to have a third child.

**Sara reports that she is the poster child as to why not to have three children.

**Heather reports that there was no alcohol in the strawberry margaritas. This is a damn shame.

**Megan and I agree that the margaritas are not giving us any sort of buzz or warmth whatsoever.

**Decide that HogHer ‘07 should happen much more frequently, possibly without being such Hogs.

Schmoozing Away in Blogaritaville

I may not be at BlogHer, dammit, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not AWESOME!!!!

That’s right, I’m AWESOME!

Here’s why…

Dawn from Coming to a Nursery Near You awarded me with the Schmoozer Award.

“As it goes, schmoozing is the natural ability “to converse casually, especially in order to gain an advantage or make a social connection.” Good schmoozers effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello - all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship.”

Funny, in real life I’m a DORK. In the blogosphere, I can schmooze with the best of them! Thanks, Dawn! The award means a lot to me!

Time for me to spread the schmooze and there are many of you who do your schmoozing quite well.

Shauna at Pass the Chocolate…I see your comments everywhere I go!

Who Cries Over Spilled Milk…I also see your comments everywhere I go!

Kara at You Can’t reason with Crazy…Ditto. See above.

Karly at Wiping Up Snot…She’s having a great week, getting such a good review and all! I wanted her to feel like she’s on a roll!

JJ at Gaining Balance…I think you were already awarded, but how could I not award you! You are such a faithful commenter and I also see your comments ALL OVER the blogosphere!

*******

I’m not EVEN done! Check this out….

Ladylike4 at The Life of a School Bus Driver awarded me the Creative Blogger Award!

Thank you so much for thinking that I’m creative. Most days I feel dull and boring and uninspired, so your awarding me for being creative is spectacular!

Here’s who I award…

Nell at meanwhile…I love her posts and her writing style. EVERYONE should check her out. Right. NOW.

Cris at June Cleaver After a Six Pack…Great writer! Great posts! We have lots in common!

Casey at Moosh in Indy…She had an orgasm on the treadmill. Her ability to write about it makes her pretty dern creative if you ask me.

Mrs. Flinger…she makes me giggle. I love her. Please don’t get a restraining order.

And last but MOST DEFINITELY NOT LEAST…

Andi from Poot and Cubby…She my new bestest blogging best friend who may very well somehow be related to me or may be a clone, like Dolly the Sheep. She’s creative and funny and pretty and I love her, too.

Go forth to schmooze and spread your creative love!!!!

Prepare to be Impressed at My Multitasking Skillz

Yesterday, I needed to use the restroom and take care of some *ahem* business. Of course, I had an entourage, as Moms do when they go to the facilities. Carson playing in the cupboards, Ella on the bathmat (where else are you supposed to put the infant in the bathroom?), and my two dogs all gathered together for my trip to the Superbowl.

Unfortunately for Carson, I was taking too long (dammit if I missed a few doses of Colace). He wanted me sing songs.

So there I sat perched on the pot, singing songs for my audience.

The ants go marching one by one HURRAH! HURRAH!…. The wheels on the bus go round and round… This old man, he played one, he played knick knack on my thumb…Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man…

(Yes, I really DID have to sing that many songs.)

I believe that I have truly become a multitasking extraordinaire, especially so since I’m a Mom of two.

You’re impressed, I can tell.

I Think I Can Convince You That You are Better Off Being Home Than in Chicago

So, I’m not at BlogHer today like many of the coolest people I know. One of those whooping it up in Chicago is Izzy from IzzyMom. She asked me to blogsit, so if you don’t mind, clink on this here link and come visit me. I’ll give you all the reasons that being home really is better than being in Chicago.

See you at Izzy’s!

Dork Alert

I saw this at Devan’s blog and I had to know….

Where would the Sorting Hat put me?

Which Hogwarts house will you be sorted into?

Your in-depth results are:

Hufflepuff - 14
Gryffindor - 11
Ravenclaw - 11
Slytherin - 7

Hmmm, I always pictured Hufflepuffs to be fat.

Maybe I should stop eating like I’m still pregnant. That might help with my developing huffle puff.
