Mr. Sandman Bring Us Some Sleep

Ella hasn’t slept more than three hours in a row since Friday.

I’m very tired. Exhausted, delirious, bushed, beat, fatigued, pooped.

Will be out of commission until she sleeps for at least a six hour stretch.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

If not, send back-up.

    Aw!! Poor Jen!

A lady in Target the other day told me to give Little Man benadryl after I mentioned how many times we had gotten up in the night.

Is that what you mean by back-up? LOL

Noting my unimpressed look, she then said, “Well, maybe you do that with the third child.”

Good luck with the little lady. “Nap when the baby naps,” (heh) and all that other bullshit.

What in God’s name is going on over there? Have you been keeping her up all night partying?

I’m so sorry. I feel your pain. Tell Ella not to spread her non-sleepy germs to Arlo or I’m gonna be pissed.

I’m sending pleasant dreams your way, my friend.

Ah crap! I did that for two years with my youngest. Hmmm. Wonder why he’s my youngest.

Hang in there. In the meantime, sleep when you can. We’ll be here waiting.

Throwing some Sandman Sand your way. I’d sing a lullaby but it really wouldn’t sound like a lullaby but more like a cat call of some kind.

Don’t you wish they made Baby Ambien?

They do, it’s called liquid melatonin. It’s 100% natural. We use it to help our little one with jet-lag (we’re Americans living in Europe so we have to deal with the no sleep issue several times a year). Benedryl does NOTHING for my wild-thing, but a tiny bit of liquid melatonin (my daughter is 25 pounds and I give her less than 1mg) and she sleeps like a champ all night. It usually only takes about 3 nights of that to get her adjusted to an 8 hour time difference. No kidding….

Of course, I’m not advocating that anyone do anything they aren’t comfortable with, but it’s a product that’s commonly available in US drugstores and has been a miracle for me traveling overseas alone with a little one. I’ve also used it from time to time to get her back on schedule when she’s getting over being sick and needs help getting back on her nighttime sleep schedule.

Good luck and good thoughts no matter what happens!

I feel for you, nothing anyone says will really help, been there done that, it just makes you growl and mumble profanities under your breath at them. Hope it gets better soon. And yes, you will feel guilty for the names you called people for being “helpful”!!! Good Luck!!!

I went through that when Sacha was 2.5 mos until 5 mos. He was up every 1.5-3 hours and would only nurse back to sleep. All. night. every. night.
I was delirious and depressed beyond all reason.
Then he learned how to roll over in his sleep and sleep on his tummy. That first night, I thought he’d died, he slept so long.
So here’s hoping Ella learns how to roll over!

So sorry. There is nothing worse than the lack of sleep and how it compounds to make every problem seem bigger and bigger. Sending some good sleep karma your way — last night our 2 year old slept through the night again for the first time in almost a month. I know the pain.

I’ve found that each time I say something out loud about the Kaiser sleeping better he wakes every 90 minutes all night. I feel your pain, we’re still at the point of consistent 3 hours stretches are a good thing.
