Well, There is One Thing

So far, I LOVE me some Indiana.    But there has been one hitch in the giddyup…

The first night here in Indiana didn’t exactly goes as planned.  After finally getting all of our stuff brought in from the cars, I started sorting laundry.  I had about five loads to do since I hadn’t had access to a washer for several days.

Laundry + just having moved and driven 800 miles with two (2) small kids = Very stressed Jennifer

I looked at the washer and realized it wasn’t a full size model, but rather one of those space saver types.  This meant that instead of five loads of laundry, instead I had about 347 loads since you can only fit about one sock and a bib per load.  I thought to myself, “at least I’ll get some laundry done before going to bed.  It’s better than NONE.”

Within about half an hour of starting the first (and only) load of laundry, Tate informed me that the washer had overflowed and that there was about two inches of water covering our kitchen floor.  I was certain that his alter ego, Captain Exaggerato, had just told me a GIANT lie.

Unfortunately the washer had overflowed and there really was about two inches of water on the kitchen floor and this water was starting to seep into the carpet in the dining/living area.

So our first night in Indiana was spent mopping.  And mopping.  And mopping some more.

347 loads of laundry + just having moved and driven 800 miles with two (2) small kids + two (2) inches of water on the kitchen floor + mopping (I despise mopping with every fiber of my being) = A very stressed and CRYING Jennifer.

(Just to be clear, I hadn’t overloaded the washer and the overflow was in no way my fault.  Apparently the washer was just crappy and old and BROKEN.)

Ugh – I hate that. Things always go wrong when you have a lot to do – our washing machine broke a few weeks ago, of course on Sunday, when I had ALL the laundry to do and nothing to wear to work the next day.
The landlord will be replacing it, right?

Mopping is the reason we have someone to clean our house. I can do anything – bathrooms, vacuum, dust – except for mopping. I’d rather buy all black socks (so you can’t see how dirty the floor is) every week than mop.

Has the washer been fixed? Please tell me you aren’t currently trapped under so much laundry you’ve lost the children.

What a sucky way to start your night!!! How ARE you sane?!?! I’d offer you use of my washer/dryer…but with 5 of us our pile never stops long enough.

I would’ve kicked the broken washer…but then ended up with a broken toe.

ARGH I hate those washers! In our old apt we had a washer/dryer like that and I had a perpetual 3ft mount of laundry in front (it was in its own little room). I would do laundry all day and never get much done because the damn dryer would only dry only like a pair of pants at a time! Everyone thought I was lazy bc I couldn’t get them to understand that I was unable to wash and dry that much in one day! AND our washer had a hole in one of the pipes and leaked behind it as well as the people’s next to us…we had BLACK MOLD in our bedroom closet because of it!!! EWWW. When we moved her, I said I didn’t want a washer if it was one of those tiny ones…I will just walk my butt a few doors down to the laundry room and use all 5 industrial size washer/dryers! I get all my stuff done in an hour or two now!!!

Anyway, dont let it get you down!

When our washer broke, I discovered the laundromat. I may permanently break ours just to get to go there. Picture this: large capacity washers and dryers, all the laundry going at once, done in an hour. Meanwhile you are reading their trashy magazines and watching whatever soap opera the laundromat worker is into. And- you get to leave your kids at home- or at least I did. It beats the spa since you aren’t sitting there thinking of all you should be getting done- you are getting something done!

I just HAD to comment on this one.

When we moved states almost 18 months ago (about 500 miles) we went through a relocation package with my husband’s new firm. I’ll admit, it WAS awesome to have companies come in to wrap and pack every last thing in my house (including the bloody TWISTY TIES) and having another company ship one of our cars for us and everything else–but what I didn’t know I was letting ourselves in for was this:

We have a front loader. A company came in AND CLAMPED THE DRUM tight so it wouldn’t budge in transit. All well and good, you say. Yes, I would agree. However, we moved to Montana where people are laid back and donkey slow at everything. I waited E-I-G-H-T days to get the use of my washer back. Can I also mention, I had a 2-year-old at the time and I was 26 weeks pregnant? Yeah.
