i know i'm a little late, but i feel the need to PRAISE my beautiful wonderous yellow dyson. i've never been more in love with an appliance, except maybe my kitchenaid stand mixer (but that's because its my fave mint green color).
i've had my dyson over two years. i have two cats, a dog, and a crap load of long curly hair. yes, my hair does get caught around the carpet roller part like another comment said, but that is the only problem i can think of. and super-guy cuts that out once a month for me when it makes a funny noise. the thing is, i've owned it for over 2 years! i NEVER get a vacuum to last more than 6 months (I may not be that "careful" of a gal - kinda clutzy even). but regardless of my constant banging, crashing and kicking of it, my dyson never lets me down!
one more thing - when i first moved in with superguy, he did not own a dyson. he owned a kirby. yeah, the vacuum-cleaner-salesman at your door kirby. well, as soon as he told me that i could "watch a video" to "learn" how to use the attachments (HAHA, AS IF!), i came across the dyson on overstock.com for about $75 less than everywhere else. hmmm..... watch a VIDEO about a VACCUUM, or buy myself a new toy? yup, i love my dyson. no videos required. the attachments are sooooo easy to use, i don't even have cobwebs anymore!
get one!

Last months issue of Consumer reports says that Dyson isn't worth the money, and that the eureka boss at Target and walmart for about $130 vacuums better and is MUCH cheaper!

I researched vacuums for about a month before I bought mine. I coveted the Dyson, but the reviews on Consumer Reports were not good. It was not even in the top 10 recommended for my lifestyle (kids and pets).

We bought the Kenmore Progressive about a year ago, and I LOVE it (and I am not one of those I-love-to-clean types). NO complaints and way cheaper than Dyson!

I've had the dc15 "Animal" (purple) model for about 4 years. It's the one supposedly designed for pet hair and dander.

I do like my Dyson. I like it a lot. Sure, it makes me feel like a dirty, disgusting human being when I vacuum 2 rooms and the entire canister is filled with dirt and cat hair, but that just means it's really doing it's job, right?

So it works very well. MUCH better than the cheapo-vacuum we had befrom. But it's a little gimmicky . The attachment all nest into the top of the canister, but they're prone to being popped out of their compartments when I round a corner or bump it into the wall. The "stair" attachment doesn't really do anything, so I just stick with the small brush attachment and the crevice attachment. I have to use the attachments to get the cat litter and dust stuck between the the floorboards (our old, old house has the old wide-plank floors with space between the planks).

The bottom line is: On carpets, this thing kicks ass. On bare floors, it's nothing special.

<em>Operation Pink Herring's last blog post..<a href='http://pinkherring.typepad.com/weblog/2008/02/you-want-me-to.html' rel="nofollow">You want me to think of a title too? Sigh.</a></em>

I haven't looked into the Dyson. We have a 5 star. It's like an electrolux. It's cost about a years salary (well, maybe not quite that much, but it was expensive) We've had it for 11 years and I think the thing can still suck the dirt off the floor of the homes in China.

I've owned a Dyson since 2005 and it is totally worth the money. No bags, and I haven't even changed the filter. And it picks up the pile on the carpet even in high traffic areas.

So worth it.
