Nothingness X 7
1. I worked and worked on a post last night about how much I hate going outside. I eventually deleted it because it all boiled down to this: Whine, whine, whine. Ella can’t walk yet, it’s hard to take her outside. Whine, whine, whine some more. Also, I hate the EXPLETIVE wind here in Indiana. The end.
2. Since I deleted that post, all I have for you today is a list of things I’ve been meaning to talk about but don’t want to write an entire post.
3. Yes I know people hate these kind of posts.
4. **shrugs shoulders** Too bad.
5. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why people liked twitter so much. I mean, I had an account, but I couldn’t figure out how people were participating in conversations. A few days ago I downloaded twhirl. It has changed my twittering life and added one more time suck to my life. For this I am grateful. (Can you see me rolling eyes?) I just thought that those of you who are slow like me, would like to know about it and be sucked in, too.
Twhirl is a twitter tool that you download. It shows up as a little icon down in the bottom right corner and dings every few minutes when people you follow post updates. You can also post updates from twhirl, shorten urls and read/write direct messages. It’s much easier than going directly to twitter and hitting refresh every few minutes.
I’m not sure whether to say, “You’re welcome!” or “I’m sorry.”
6. I just sold my couch on Craigslist. Like, I REALLY just sold it minutes ago. The lady came by and said she’d take it! Woo hoo!
7. At least once a month I get an email from someone asking me how I got the number of subscribers/readers/traffic…that I have. I’ve been thinking that I might start a series of posts talking about what I’ve done to gain and maintain readers. The first post would be a general overview talking about different social networking sites, reciprocity, blog design (blah, blah, blah) and the subsequent posts would talk about each one in depth.
Is anyone interested in reading about this? I would only post these type of posts on the weekends and save my SUPER BRILLIANT mommyblogging for the week.

i so know what you mean about the walking thing. ugh. you can complain to me individually if you want to…i’m in the same boat. we could b*t*h together.
oldest daughter was already walking for 2 months by this time!!!!!!!!!!! this one…is taking her sweet time. and i know that i should cherish it. but the monkey is just as fast crawling…it’s not saving me any calorie burning energy. one good thing…she will not crawl on the grass! i can set her down and tend to the garden because she will not put her hands down on the green stuff! she says it’s owie.
jen’s last blog post..i’m feeling rather mediocre, thank you for asking…
My baby is 11 months old and not walking. I keep thinking it will be any day, but I’ve said that for weeks and weeks now. Oh well.
I so don’t get twitter. Maybe I’ll look into twhirl.
wright’s last blog post..Wordless Wednesday - Weed or Flower
I love twitter. I’m only on for about an hour or two in the evening after the kids are in bed while I’m catching up with stuff online, but it is still fun to chat with everyone!
abunslife’s last blog post..Serious talk
1. Walking children are overrated.
2. I would love, love, love to read your posts about attracting more traffic. Have been working on my blog for a little over a month. I think I have some good things to say, but is anyone reading?
3. Having a little giveaway on my blog- maybe you’d like to come by and comment and possibly win.
4. The prize will give you a few “calgon” take me away moments…so stop by soon. Thanks Laurie
laurieofthesevenstories’s last blog post..F is for Fridays, and Fantasy Island
I like it ALL!
the new girl’s last blog post..Stories From The Crazay Mofo-Neighbor File (With Resolution)
I have yet to go to twitter, it scares me. I just found a reader for blogs that I like so I am not constantly going to places that aren’t updated.
Sure post about how you got your readers, I think it would be interesting to read.
Heather’s last blog post..Things to be thankful for
Sometimes a post like this is the only way you can get out everything that you need to without doing lots of tiny little posts. I don’t mind list-like posts from time to time.
I’ve heard of Twitter, but I haven’t checked it out. I have enough time wrapped up in blogging/reading blogs. I can’t imagine getting addicted to one more thing online. But I will keep this in mind in case I ever check it out.
The weekend post on your blogging tips would be nice. I’d read them.
Mommy Daisy’s last blog post..Fun, fun
I hate to take my kids outside, and I have no good excuses–they’re 7 and 5. I don’t even know what my problem is. When we’re out there they don’t want mommy to just sit and watch–sheesh!
I don’t get the whole twitter thing…and I’m not going to try too hard to figure it out, because the very last thing I need around here is another time sucker!
I’m sure your posts on improving traffic would be very interesting and informative, but can I please just have the magic wand?
Mom24’s last blog post..Twenty four years ago today…
Im with you on Twitter..I don’t get it ..but boy did I jump on the bandwagon. It’s like an instant messenger that isn’t really instant.
Id be interested to know how you accumulated your “groupies”
I would read the ones that talk about your readership - but only on the weekends. LOL (I hate writing that, but I wanted to ensure you could read the sarcasm - about the weekend thing)
KEEP BELIEVING
Angie’s last blog post..A weekend retreat
1) I totally need to twitter. I don’t even know what what I just said means.
2) How can my town NOT have a Craig’s list? Guess around here you just leave your couch on the curb at the end of the semester.
3) Oh how I would devour your insights into traffic. I just figured out how to remove my own self from my traffic reports, and I went from about 17 readers a day to about 4. FOUR. Clearly I need your seasoned wisdom.
Sus’s last blog post..Tell it again, Mommy
PS. Come on, the wind in Indiana is great. It’s a good steady breeze on a stifling humid day. You’ll be praying to the Wind Gods come August.
Sus’s last blog post..Tell it again, Mommy
It’s the super brilliant mommyblogging that got you your readers! Hard to replicate…
amy’s last blog post..It Will Always Be Over, And Yet It Will Never End
My youngest (10 mo.) is not walking… but she’s close. My oldest was walking at this point and I’m trying hard not to compare them! I am ambivalent about the walking only b/c having to chase two mobile children around the playground will make for a very long summer… mind you, that could help me lose this stubborn babyweight.
Yeah, I don’t like going outside either because Liam can’t walk.
I would love any posts on the weekends. I’m always looking for some good reads on Saturday night. Yeah, sad, I know. Very very sad.
What else did you talk about? Oh yeah, congrats on the couch. I like twitter but don’t think I need that fancy stuff yet.
‘kay. bye.
Cathy’s last blog post..I Am, I Am, I Am SuperMan
I like list posts!
Yes, please, posts on gaining and keeping readership would be great! Twitter alone has helped but I haven’t gotten into any other social networking.
I’m checking out Twirl now, thanks. I’ve been using Twitter much more lately and refreshing is a pain but I didn’t like Twadget at all, and there aren’t too many others that work with Vista. Stupid Vista.
catnip’s last blog post..the tv experiment
All good, I say.
Also with you on the not-walking age. For both my kids, the summer I hated most was the one before they were 1.
Greta’s last blog post..I Want a Wii Fit
List posts are great, you’re always great!
Jen’s last blog post..A Thousand Words Thursday
I like the list posts.. rock on with that.
Id love to read about how you made such a kick butt blog.. please.. write on about that.
and twitter.. i opened my twitter a few weeks ago and havent been back..even with twhirl..at the moment i’m still too lazy.
Madness’s last blog post..Dad Update
Thanks for the info on twhirl. I always saw posts from twhirl but never knew what it was. I am now equipped to be most efficiently addicted.
I’d like to hear about the traffic thing. What I’d really like to know is how people know what Google searched are leading others to their blogs. People sometimes do a list of odd Google searches like “Do bananas go bad?” or “hairy shower” or strange stuff like that. I’m dying to know if any strange search has led to my blog but I don’t know how to obtain that information.
RubiaLala’s last blog post..I Just Don’t Care
I’ll read it
I’d love a How to dominate the blogosphere like Jennifer series
K, I’m waiting… patiently.
What, you haven’t posted yet? What’s the deal?
rachel’s last blog post..Bring on the Bananas
Ok, I have to ask. Where are you at in Indiana? I was born and raised in Fort Wayne. Its not often I see another Hoosier here.
Also, are you on my Twitter already? If not, add me!
J’s last blog post..Today will be a good day.
Thanks for the twhirl update…I need that.

Mary Jo’s last blog post..Racist, insulting, stupid, all or none of the above?
I love twhirl!!
I was exactly where you are with the walking last summer. It sucks. By the end of the summer it sucked less though.
Also, I would love to read your “how I became such an awesome blogger” series.
Beth’s last blog post..girls and shopping
I pooh-poohed twitter for the longest time and then reluctantly gave in to the peer pressure. Now I have it on my frickin’ PPC. Sheesh. BTW - I’m dorydorydory on twitter.
You must’ve been reading my mail… I was just thinking about asking you about readers/comments/total identity crisis linked to comment numbers. Bring it on, sista.
Dory’s last blog post..“Hey whaddya doin’ whaddya got there can I help?”

I know what you mean about the going outside thing. I’m dying for tethers for the girls to make my plans for walking excursions this summer that much easier.
Hopefully Ella will be walking soon so it’ll be easier!
And what wind? You say there’s wind here? NAH.
Sarah’s last blog post..Thursday Thirteen #15
Pretty please post about gaining and maintaining readers! All of the blog-related topics are ones I would be really interested in . . .
I would have enjoyed a post about hating to go outside.
Also, do you sell things on Craig’s List often? I’d love to read more about Craig’s List and to see comments from readers with success stories/warnings . . .

I’d be interested in your bloggy secrets too
Mary’s last blog post..Sybil
I’ve spent hours writing a post only to change my mind and delete it, too. Sucky.
Why won’t people stop talking about Twitter?!?!? I’m doing my best to avoid it - last thing I need is another addiction - but I’m not sure how much longer I can hold out.
I’d love to hear your bloggy secrets for boosting readership. Just in the last couple weeks, I’ve started thinking maybe I want to do that.
Christina’s last blog post..Another step towards growing up
I feel like I must be the last person in the world without a twitter account. And now I feel like maybe I should subscribe to the peer pressure. But then I think about something else that will draw me in and suck my time away and I get all twitchy feeling. Oh, the dilemmas of the internet age…
Maggie’s last blog post..Wordless Wednesday: Full Bloom
The wind here? It is HORRIBLE. I hate it.
Twitter…total addict here.
Indygirl’s last blog post..Thursday Thirteen #3 - Anticipation
Any traffic recommendations would be much appreciated!
Maybe then I’ll start to twitter. Don’tcha need traffic to twitter? And if I twitter then I can twhirl. Ah the alliteration is getting me!!
katy (aka funny girl)’s last blog post..English 101 - Mags
Ack - I’m already addicted to reading all these blogs. I’m afraid to venture near Twitter. I’ll probably get fired from my job and my family would disown me!

I love Craig’s List, but am avoiding Twitter like the plague.
Heather’s last blog post..I Once Caught a Fish This Big
I have thus far resisted the call of twitter - I don’t know how, but I’m hoping it lasts, so that my children wont be removed from care due to abandonment…

Twhirl made Twitter *so* much more likeable! Like Google Reader, once I discovered Twhirl, I wondered how I ever lived without it.
Dawn’s last blog post..don’t look now but…
Once a month emails? Ahem. What about the weekly phone call you get asking you what you did to get your numbers up? ahem
I’d love to read about it because I still don’t get it.
Are you going to tell me I’m going to *have* to break down and play twitter and other blogotic games? sigh. I am prepared to resign my stance of pig-headedness.

Mira can’t quite walk yet, either, so I hate going outside, too. She doesn’t like the grass, either, which makes it even more difficult.
Sure, go ahead and share your ideas on traffic building. You share yours, and I’ll share mine, OK? I’m all about sharing the tips and tricks we can all use to have lots of readers.
Christina’s last blog post..A Birthday Party Quandary
I love me some nothingness, once in a while. I don’t get twhirl. Maybe it’s that it creeps me out the way WordPress does (yet I have a blog on it…). I assure you I get the wind. Dallas is the windiest city in the country. It’s craptacular to have gorgeous sun and then walk out to 40 mph winds. Sorry you are getting the same crap.
Anglophile Football Fanatic’s last blog post..Call Me Chemical Hol-ly
oh man, i was the same with the boys last summer! Zander wanted to go outside all the time, and Logan couldn’t walk. i tried sitting him in the wagon, but he kept trying to climb out. i tried putting him in the stroller, but he just got pissy. ugh! of course, now we’re living in a new development with no pavement (the driveway and street are gravel) and no lawn (the backyard is a huge much hole. they won’t be putting sod down till sometime in July!!!), and Logan doesn’t know enough not to just run down the street. i can’t wait to be able to lock him in the backyard!
oh, man! i’ve been avoiding Twitter…i barely time to blog!!!
yay for selling your couch!
as for the posts about subscribers/readership, i would love to see those. i’m basically starting from scratch since i’ve been away for so long!
Cate’s last blog post..Pink Eye waiting to happen
I would totally dig (or should I say Digg…I know, bad internet humor, sorry) some posts with tips on how to attract readers and how everything bloggy works. i’m new to it, and am trying to learn everything I can from you more experienced bloggy folk.

Good&Crazy’s last blog post..MEME: The last
I never cared for Twitter… I don’t follow anyone, I’m not followed by anyone, actually I never use it. Blah blah!
As for the increased reader traffic, I don’t get traffic. I don’t even know why I have a blog. Surely I didn’t start out because I wanted to have lots of readers. I did it so I had an on-line journal of our life, so that family and friends could catch up if they wanted to. I have accounts with myspace, facebook, cafemom, mom blog network, and I don’t even know why. I think there’s something in my nature that wants readers so long story short, please share with us!
