Chickity China, The Chinese Chicken, Have A Drumstick and Your Brain Starts Tickin’

Damn you VH-1.  I cannot, CANNOT resist the lure of those top 100 lists WITH BONUS COMEDIC COMMENTARY!

I’m ashamed to admit that I watched an unspeakable (4, shhh) hours of the Maxim 100 list of best songs from the 90′s.    I somehow missed the first hour, but luckily caught up with some of my old favorites.

Jamiroquai!  I’d forgotton all about Virtual Insanity!

Dee-lite!  Groove is in the Heart!

Bel Biv Devoe!  Poison!

Fiona Apple!  Criminal!

Red Hot Chili Peppers!  Under the Bridge!  (Y and her kids do a fantastic rendition here!)

Gerardo!  Rico Suave!  Okay, not that one so much.

Oooh, and my all time favorite song of the 90′s (well at least ONE of them), One Week!  Barenaked Ladies!  As a little fun Jennifer trivia that I suspect you did not know, I can sing along to that song.  Sure I don’t know ALL the words, but I know A LOT of them.  Put that little gem of knowledge in your pocket and save it for later!

~Watch the X-files with no lights on, blah, blah, blah, blah, I hope the smoking man’s in this one.  Like Harrison Ford I’m getting frantic, next thing I’m tantric, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah guaranteed to satisfy~

Those 90′s songs reminded me of a time LONG, LONG, LONG ago.  Weighing barely over 100 pounds [insert EXAGGERATED eye roll HERE].  My blue 1987 Chevy Nova with bad paint that smelled like a dirty ashtray inside.  My introduction to email and that new-fandangled thing called the Internet.  The decade of my belly-button ring that never actually stopped oozing (TMI?) and caused me to buy shirts that showed off my belly [more eye rolling!].  The five and half years I spent working as a hostess at Ruby Tuesday.  Drinking Natural Light and thinking it was pretty good.  **wipes away a tear**

What was your favorite song of the 90′s and what does it remind you of?  You can go HERE to check out Vh-1′s list.

Don’t be ashamed, Jennifer! Embrace your inner geekness. Like Harrison Ford I’m feeling frantic, like Sting I’m tantric. Oh, you have done it now. I’m going to be singing this for a week now. ONE WEEK. Har, har. (and I love that spell check doesn’t recognize “tantric”)

Let’s see. Jewel “Who Will Save Your Soul”. I was in the Music Production program at a music college and had to do this song as a sound-a-like. I didn’t like how the vocals were going so I trashed them and sang myself. Oh, I still cringe at the thought of my entire class listening to this and knowing it was me singing. Horrible.

I must say though, Duncan Sheik “Barely Breathing”. Yum. Love that song. This is a family site so I won’t share but I do love that song.

    36. C+C Music Factory “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”

My friend Crystal, her cousin, and I driving down to Santa Barbara, 1991 to send off a group of our friends to college. Yikes, we drank Cuervo and lime, did tequila poppers in the hotel room. Good times.

    Thanks for the memories!

Ah, you’re bringing back memories, even for a late 80′s baby! My friend and I made it our summer project one year to listen to “One Week” over and over again, and to learn the lyrics. I still can sing them, at the drop of a hat :)

    My favorite verse:
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink, as I make you stop, think, you’ll think you’re looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi ’cause it’s never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes
    Big like LeAnn Rimes
    Because I’m all about value
Bert Kaempfert’s got the mad hits, you try to match wits, you try to hold me but I bust through, gonna make a break and take a fake, I’d like a stinkin achin shake I like vanilla, it’s the finest of the flavors, gotta see the show, cause then you’ll know the vertigo is gonna grow cause it’s so dangerous
    you’ll have to sign a waiver…

Good times. I just came across Stunt the other day while I was cleaning and popped it in. Funny you should title your latest blog after a BNL song ;)

Narrowing down the music is kind of tough. I noticed Edwin McKain’s “I’ll Be wasn’t on there. The 90′s were not my best decade. I did like Hootie back then.

I looked at your pictures. You were a hottie! And you still aren’t too bad!

I can’t stop singing Barenaked Ladies now!

Somehow I missed that show yesterday, but the beauty of VH1 is that they tend to replay things over and OVER again, so I will totally keep my eyes open for that to be on again!

I couldn’t pick a favorite from that list, because every time I looked at the next song I thought “no THAT is my favorite!”.

Clearly decision making is NOT my forte…

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that VH1 and MTV are HUGE here in Israel and we watch those cheesy countdowns all the time (sadly with our cable we get 15 channels in English and the rest in Hebrew or Russian)…

OK, huge Barenaked Ladies Fan… If I had 1,000,000 is one of my favorite songs… great college memories. Can’t believe that I’ll admit that I liked that Montell Jordan song – “This is How We Do It”, or MC Hammer, “Can’t Touch This”… I love a song with some beat to it.

Funny memories on here…nice to know I’m not the only one that loves this stuff.

Rumpshaker – I just remember the video with that girl playing the saxaphone on the beach. Duh-nah-nah-nah-naaaaaaaah.

I think the rap songs bring back the most memories. What about OPP? (senior year in high school) “The “O” is for other, “P” is for people scratchin’ temple, the last “P” well that’s not that simple”

I can remember when I was younger and my dad was all fired up about “oldies but goodies” stations when they became a big fad. Are we turning into our parents???

  46. Jennifer

They talked about OPP on the VH-1 show and giggled about the last “P”! I remember my boyfriend had a kickin’ stereo system in his Ford Ranger and we totally grooved to OPP and probably annoyed everyone at every stoplight!
