Two Posts for the Low, Low Price of Just $19.99! Call Now and I’ll Throw in a Useless Freebie!

Post One!

There are so many little things that make me feel all warm and squishy about my kids right now.  I just look at them in awe and feel my heart lurch and skip a beat.

I love that I can have a real conversation with Carson.

After months of blobdom, I’m amazed at Ella’s blooming independence and curiosity.

Since I’ve always been the second place parent when it comes to Carson, I’m relishing the fact that Ella thinks I’m the cat’s meow.  Raur!

It’s really heartwarming that Carson has such a sensitive side.

I love that Ella still takes two naps!  Score some bonus blogging time for me!

Post Two!

There are so many little things that bug the ever-loving CRAP out of me about my kids right now.  I just look at them in awe and wonder why the hell I don’t just break down and call a babysitter.

Sure you can have a conversation with Carson, but can you say SASSY much?  “NO!  I want peanut butter and jelly!!!!” and in the very next breath…”NOOOOOOO!  I don’t want peanut butter and jelly!!!!!   I have to use my innermost restraint not to strangle him.

After months of being able to just put Daredevil Ella down and not having to watch her every move, I now have to watch her like a hawk so she doesn’t eat the fireplace tools or hang from the ceiling fans.

Sure it’s nice being the preferred parent sometimes.  But geez louise, EL-LA!  I just want to pee ALONE!  You won’t suffer any long term damage by not being held WHILE I pee.

Carson?  Seriously?  The drama?  It’s time to stop it.  You’re a two and a half year old BOY not a thirteen year old GIRL.

I am so incredibly sick of being banished to the house except for the two hours between 11-1.  It’s time to cut back to one nap a day, kiddo.

HALP!

Useless Freebie!

In reference to my post about the top 100 songs of the 90’s, did anyone notice that Backstreet Boys “I Want it That Way” was number 3??!!!  I have admitted in the past to liking the Backstreet Boys, but THAT song as the number 3 song of the DECADE??   Tate and I had an in-depth discussion about this travesty and neither one of us can fathom how anyone would think it belongs anywhere in the top 20, even.  To prove my husband’s manliness, I should tell you that Tate feels the song belongs nowhere below the top 2 zillion.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

So funny! I’m jealous of your kiddo’s two naps. The Baby’s been on one since I can remember. I can empathise with not being able to leave the house though. It’s hard enough to make plans when I’m not a morning person and I have to block out his possible nap hours. Tee-he, his nap range is like the cable guy, anytime between 11 and 3!

Funny, I have a similar list about my parents…

AND there’s no way that song should be number 3 where there are so many EXCELLENT songs from that time period. While I won’t say its as far down as Tate would like, I do believe it shoudn’t have broken the top 100, maybe even 200.

So true – it’s really a dicotomy. Feeling so blessed and cursed sometimes with the kids. Please no one (Jennifer, included!) get upset that I just said a curse. I love my baby more than anything, but just sometimes I wish I could escape. That’s all.

I have been known to sing along with a Backstreet Boys song or two (just this morning in fact) but I do NOT think that it belongs in the top 10. However I will conceed that a place in perhaps the top 50 should be granted. Clearly VH1 made an error with their original list.

We just quit the morning nap after the younger kiddo’s first birthday. I ended up making the afternoon nap a bit earlier for a while to compensate, but it sure was nice to be able to get out of the house for a little bit longer. And as an added bonus, the afternoon nap went from two hours to three or three and a half, and what’s not to love about that?!

MTV and Rolling Stone magazine voted I Want It That Way in the top 10 Pop songs ever written from 1950’s-2000. No matter what you may think of the Backstreet Boys themselves, it is hard to deny that that song permeated the airways and TV in the late nineties. It is one of the songs that teens knew, but even their parents knew segments of the lyrics. Most critics will give kudos to that one song in all the banality of 90’s pop. Personally, I consider it the Pachibel’s Canon of pop music. As an interesting aside, the song is in regular use by cardiac rehab nurses on playlists created for cardiac patients because of the release of serotonin during the song.

  18. Jennifer

    May 27, 2008 at 5:17 pm

Top 10 of 50 YEARS??? Equivalent of Pachibel’s Canon in d???? Really?

    I mean I do like the song…but…I don’t think it’s that good!

And that is an interesting aside about it’s use for cardiac patients. I’d have thought they use something like Pachibel for that!

    Comment One:
I totally agree. Love the two naps I get from Liam – love them. Love the Quinn can talk more and understands SO much – it’s crazy. And his personality is so funny sometimes!

    Comment Two:
I totally agree. Argh. I feel so trapped in the house – and running out between a 11 and 1 just isn’t worth the hassle. And Quinn – tries to be funny all. the. time. But it’s not always appropriate to be funny and silly all. the. time. That and it’s tiring to answer all his WHY questions.

My youngest dropped her morning nap really early, like before her first birthday, and I was so relieved because I got to go out with both kids during the morning hours.

Then I went away for a weekend with hubby (don’t hate) and my friends who watched the girls said they stayed home all three days and she napped each day in the morning for two hours.

Oops, apparently I was the one who dropped the nap, not her.

Ha! Love it. I totally know how you feel. I’m definitely encouraging Zach’s 2 nap a day habit. Unfortunately, Dylan’s to the point where he THINKS he doesn’t need a nap. But I need him to nap. It’s a battle.

And this is a conversation I had with Dylan the other day:
Me: Dylan, would you like some water?
    Dylan: No. I’m hungry
Me: would you like a peach?
    Dylan: Yes. But I don’t.
    Me: What does that mean?
    Dylan: I want a sandwich.

I’m no mommy, but I can totally relate on the nap issue. I watch a sweet 1 year old little one (Baby L) who’s slowly / sometimes transitioning to one nap a day. She usually still takes two, and although it’s a nice afternoon break for me, I know it’s nicer for her mama when she takes a good chunk of a mornin’ one. However, DevilBaby oft comes out to play (AKA hit, pinch, fuss, cry, bang head upon floor when unhappy) when she doesn’t have a two-fer. It’s a catch twenty-two. Good luck! I know we’re having trouble getting Baby L to make the switch from 2-to-1…no fun!

I babysit a lot, and I can also relate to what you said about Carson (and Ella). Gotta love/hate the Jekyll and Hyde routine kids tend to pull-never know who you’re gonna get, do ya?
