Seven Memories

Photobucket

Today Tate and I celebrate our seven year anniversary.

On the morning of July 14, 2001, I woke up very early, unable to go back to sleep due to the anticipation of this long awaited day.  I went down to the hotel lobby to have breakfast.  My dad happened to be in the lobby, so he and I ate breakfast together.  Sitting there with just my dad before my big day is one of my favorite memories from the day.

Later that morning, I saw my grandpa.  He asked me if I knew that July 14th was also my grandmother’s birthday, she’d passed away when I was just a young child.  I hadn’t known that our wedding date was also her birthday, making the day that much more special.

When the doors of the church opened, Tate looked like he was going to cry.  I’ve asked him many times since if it was because of my breathtaking beauty or his nerves…of course, he always answers correctly.  It was all I could do not to ugly cry as I walked down the aisle.

At our reception, I told the DJ that I did not want to hear any music by AC/DC or Rush, two of my most detested bands.  It didn’t matter if one of the reception guests requested to hear one of their songs, he was supposed to tell them that he’d add it to his list but then never get to it.  He respected my wishes.  Smart DJ.

We served a buffet dinner, which sadly I barely remember.  I know I ate, I know that we had prime rib, but I don’t even recall if it was good.  So sad to not even remember the food.  I love reminiscing about food.  What’s even more sad though, is that I only got one bite of wedding cake.  I told Tate prior to the wedding that if he smeared cake in my face, he’d pay dearly.  Tate respected my wishes.  Smart Tate.

We decided that getting a limo to drive us to our hotel where we’d spend our wedding night would be silly.  To save money, my mom drove us to our hotel.  I remember laughing as she dropped us off, knowing what we were getting ready to go do for the VERY FIRST TIME.  *ahem*

Tate carried me over the threshold.  Thinking about that makes my heart flutter.

A wedding is just one day out of a marriage, but ours was a WONDERFUL day to BEGIN our marriage.  I had no doubt in my mind that I was making the right choice.  I still have no doubt that Tate is my one and only.

Sweet memories! I told my husband the same thing about the cake, but I still didn’t trust him haha. The picture of us feeding each other the cake shows me with my other hand around his wrist just in case lol. Happy Anniversary!

    Happy Anniversary!

I only had one bite of my cake too. And I left the top layer in the hotel fridge. I was so sad a week later when I finally remembered.

    Great wedding story!
I don’t think any bridal couple gets to actually enjoy their food/cake.
I remember we had tons of cake left and was hoping that when we got back from our honeymoon there would be cake waiting for us. Yeah we saved the top part for the 1st anniversary..but no way did we try to eat it.
Nope our groomsman who was ever so sweet to clean up our house and take care of the dogs threw the cake in the trash. The travisty of it all!

Those are some beautiful memories! It’s a great thing for us that a wedding is just one day, as ours was a bit of a mess, but the rest of the 15 years have rocked the casbah!!

    Congrats!

Happy Anniversary!!! We just celebrated our Seventh last Monday.

And we had a no Michael Bolton or Village People rule at our reception. Oh, and a no cake-smashing rule. Boy, did we disappoint the rowdy crowd. I have never understood why you would go through hair and make up and know that EVERYONE is going to be documenting that day and how LOVELY you looked. It is hard to look the picture of beauty and poise with buttercream up your nose. Tacky.

Happy 7th Anniversary Jennifer and Tate! Seems like that itch is nowhere to be found in your marriage. Having experienced the pain of my parents divorcing years ago, I always love hearing about couples that find true love, have a happy marriage, and LAST. It gives me hope that my own marriage (someday) will be a loving and long-lasting one. Thank you for that.

Hey, Jennifer. Thanks for sharing. These are great memories. I love the breakfast with your dad memory. I think that is priceless. I couldnt sleep the morning of my wedding either. I was up aroun 4:15 am. Because of that our, um, first time activies, ahem, were delayed until the am. Yeah, I actually fell asleep about 30 seconds after I pulled out the last bobbypin.

Too funny. We are on year 13 and it has gone fast. I was lucky enough to have a kind friend or family member ( I sadly don’t remember who did it for us) make us a “to go box” of food and cake to take to the hotel. The funny part was that we didn’t have utensils and called room service and I remember it taking like an hour to get a stupid fork and knife! My funniest story is when we returned from our honeymoon and since it was the labor day holiday (our family that we had given a key to feed the dog while we were in Jamaica ) all friends and family were out of town. We were stranded without a key to our home. Thankfully my hubbie found an open window by the air conditioning unit and threw me into the house. I always laugh that I wasn’t carried over the threshold, but dumped through a window!

I, too, will always remember July 14, 2001. I was excitedly admitted into the hospital. On July 14, 2001, my doctor scheduled a c-section for me to be done on July 16, where my second child, my daughter would be born.
So you were getting married and I was trying to have a baby!
