(This picture is SO inappropriate. I LOVE it!) (photo source)
Let’s talk about eggnog.
My opinion about eggnog is this: I like…well LIKE is not entirely accurate…I’ll obligingly HAVE one very small glass during the holiday season, served ICE cold, and I do mean ICE cold with a splash of whiskey. After that I do not want another glass until the following year, when Christmas tradition dictates that I drink it. In fact, I don’t really want to be in the same room with eggnog after my token glass. Just watching others drink it and seeing the thick remnants on the glass makes me feel a little sick on the inside.
My husband on the other hand would swim laps in eggnog if I allowed it. He guzzles glass after glass, practically tonguing the glass to get every.last.drop. (That last sentence isn’t entirely true. He actually stands at the refrigerator and tongues it straight from the carton. *shudder*)
I just cannot imagine! The thickness! The richness! The word “nog.” It’s too much, I say! It’s too much! Blech.
Where do you stand on this most important of holiday issues?
******
I’d like to congratulate Amy from Pretty Babies, the “lucky” winner of my copy of Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. Amy, I really hope you like it more than I did.

I’m a no. And not even an obligatory glass per year. Yuck! HD a yes. The licking? happens here, too. He and Tate would probably get along.
Okay Hazel, let’s talk about nog.
mwah.
My dad, a 24 year recovered makes nog that could run your car for the next year. It’s disgusting and fabulous all at once. It sits for 2 days before anyone is allowed to drink it. I hate it and yet it draws me in with it’s power, it’s creamy, filling, lush richness. I drink, maybe one glass… occasionally every 3rd year, I have 1 1/2. It has the power to turn grown people into blithering idiots and it’s intoxicating smell, well.. we’ll leave it at that
I LoVe It!
Two years ago, I had a 8 month old and I was 5 months pregnant and we went to Denver for Christmas and my BIL went out in a blizzard to get me more Egg Nog because I had to have it.
I am also addicted to Egg Nog Shakes from McDonalds. I get them a couple times a week. I tell hubby that I need to run a quick errand but I really go to McDonalds.
I have a problem.

I like the kind you get at Stewarts with extra Nog. That’s the rum part right?

See, the thing is, you gotta add Kahlua to it rather than whiskey. Don’t knock it til you try it!

I’m with you…I have to have some every year. But once I’ve had a glass of it, I’m done. My husband is thrilled when he sees it at the grocery store in October and will practically drink it before we get home. He loves the stuff.
So, good Jews aren’t supposed to love anything about the gentile holidays. However, this Jew was raised on a tree farm and loves eggnong! My Rabbi husband does as well. We’re coming back to America for a month and one of the first things we’ll buy at the grocery store (After we get off the plane and light the Menorah at a complete stranger’s house in Washington DC) is a gallon of eggnog and some milk to cut mine with. And we’ll but some in my daughter’s bottle to see what she makes of it! (without the alcohol, obviously)

So. Disgusting.
You’ve got one on me because I refuse to drink even one sip of it!
Yeah, the hubby likes it though… gross!

First and foremost, LOVE the illustration.
Almost as much as I love the nog. I can’t help myself. I combat the thickness with massive amounts of espresso (in the morning) and rum (after 5pm…..oh, alright, noon. You got me. But hell, it’s the holidays.)

I found your blog again! I lost it when everything on my computer died…
Around here it is referred to as E-Gog. The boys love it, as do I. Ian will not touch the stuff. Perhaps if I try adding the whiskey?

Yuck! I do not like eggnog at all! Who started this holiday tradition?

Sweetie, you need to try MY eggnog. That nasty stuff in the carton? *vomit*
Seeing I live in the future I could post it on Aussie Christmas Eve being your Christmas Eve Eve giving you time to whip up a batch. Or five.
And it is icecold.
I’m not sure whether or not I’m lucky that the stuff really doesn’t make an appearance over here. Don’t think I’d be able to stomach it.
You need to thin it a little with milk and add a spash of rum. Yum!
I remember liking it as a child, but it never occurred to me to buy it at the grocery store. It tastes like melted cloved ice cream right? I’d probably drink the whole quart myself, so it’s better not to know.

I’m a no. It’s slimy and thick and I can’t make myself swallow it. Hmmm, sounds like something else, too, now that I think of it…

See, you are obviously doing it wrong. Things to put in eggnog to improve it’s already amazingness:
milk
rum
kahlua
ammaretto
coffee
I could go on, but I have a carton calling my name.
Tammy´s lastest post..What exactly is code for "grow up"?
I like eggnog, but it is also really rich for me. So, I buy the smallest possible carton, have a glass watered down with 2% or skim milk (trust me, it makes it much more manageable) and then use the rest as creamer for my morning coffee. I think my problem is that I like eggnog flavored things, but not actually eggnog.

I like it only if it’s been “diluted” (ha!) with melted vanilla ice cream and then TONS of ground nutmeg. It really tastes more like ice cream, with an eggnog flavor twist. That way only.

I was watching christmas vacation the other night and threw up in my mouth when I watched Clark slam 2 glasses of egg nog. Ewww!! Gross!! Doesn’t the name just say it all??
Honestly? I’ve never been able to get past the name of it and actually try it. Eggnog. It just sounds wrong.
Maybe I’ll force myself to try a swig out of my husbands carton in the fridge.
My Christmas drink of choice is a Caesar. Sadly I’ll be drinking them virgin this year with a Pepto chaser for the heartburn since I’m pregnant. Boohoo.
i’ve NEVER had it!
EVER!
not even an egg nog latte!
eggnog lattes…. yummmmmmmmmmm

I like egg nog, but in small amounts a few times a season. It’s too thick to chug down, for sure
My dad will not drink it. He calls it “Gag Nog”. LOL. My husband is like yours, he will drink more and more (without alcohol). Me? I like a glass now and then, but just a tiny bit.

i do like it. i’ve been known to tongue it, also…. but i also think it can be too rich/thick. tho i’ve never liked mine w/ alcohol. makes it even stronger.
BUT- this year i’m very excited! we won’t buy it to throw it away later. i discovered that Publix has eggnog ice cream! YUM. it’s the absolute best of both worlds. tastes just like eggnog but not grosslike.
i highly recommend it.
i think this year we will be having eggnog milkshakes.

I am going to be totally honest…I’m not exactly sure what eggnog tastes like. I sort of remember having a sip once when I was little, but it was so long ago that I couldn’t tell you what it tastes like.
But now I have a perverse desire to go out and get some, just to see if I love it or hate it.
Maggie´s lastest post..Maybe sleep isn’t so overrated after all…
Everything about eggnog is just wrong. Um, including that picture!
I hate it, I won’t even take a small sip. Blech. Luck for me, no one in my family seems to like it either because we never have it at Christmas.

Egg nog? BLECH. Can’t do it. My family goes one step barfier. Tom & Jerry’s. Can you say scrambled eggs in a cup with lotsa booze?
I absolutely detest eggnog and won’t touch it at all. Blech!

My hate of eggnog reminded me of this dutch drink my grandfather used to love. I’ve bought him a few bottles for Christmas and he would hide away in the kitchen sipping away. It’s called Advocaat. According to Wiki “Its contents may be a blend of egg yolks, aromatic spirits, sugar or honey, brandy, vanilla and sometimes cream.” To me it just looked like a disgusting yellow slime.
I’ve never actually tried it, but the thought of it creeps me out.
Was just talking about this with my husband. It’s definitely an acquired taste. He really loves it, Im more of a one cup w/ ice once during the season kinda person.
LOVE that pic you used!
I like it with some spiced Jamaican rum in it… yummy.

I won’t look at it. I WILL NOT kiss the hubs after he’s had some. I won’t pour it in a glass for ANYONE. I can’t stand hearing the word. No amount of alcohol can make it better. BLEECH!
I like eggnog after years of hating it, and the secret to drinking it (for me, anyway) is to cut it half-and-half with milk.
