mud puddle!

I sort of feel like mother of the year when I look at this picture.  Mud makes me completely insane, I hate the unavoidable mess.  Yet!  Because my children ADORE mud, I let them jump and splash in the mud puddles in our yard after Friday evening’s rain.

At least the light was perfect and I at least I got a few shots of the children.  And at least I was going out that evening with friends and leaving Tate to clean up two very muddy children.  So not only am I mother of the year for letting them play in the mud, I’m also a genius for doing it on a night that I wouldn’t have to deal with the aftermath.

You can see my entire set of photos for my project 365 {2010} on Flickr.

Nothing like galoshes and a gigantic puddle to make the day brighter.

Gorgeous shot. And brilliant plan for zero cleanup. You are a bright one, indeed.

I’m not a big fan of mud. My kids don’t like mud. Well, at least I don’t think they like mud. Who knows? I don’t let them play in it.

Good for you! Maybe I should try that…

But… rain puddles? That’s a whole ‘nother story. The other day I put on my own rain boots and went out and jumped in the puddles with the boys. It totally lifted my “rainy day” mood…

My little one had the exact same set of boots and jacket! Random considering we’re in Scotland and you’re in the US…?!

I hate the aftermath of mud too, but like your two, the kids love it. So I just have to accept that a muddy kid is a happy kid. *sigh*

Aw. Max loves mud too. And I have come to realise something: the damn stuff washes out! It was the most liberating thought I’ve ever had, I swear.

Now he jumps around in it, and I calmly throw everything in the washer. I still think it’s icky, of course, but then again, I’m not the one rolling around in the stuff.

    Lovely, lovely photos ;)

Mud makes my boys happy….and annoys me. They’d rather play in mud than play with all those expensive ride on toys they got for xmas. Next year they are getting mud in their stockings.

Good for you! Those are the types of things they’ll remember doing when they look back at being kids. I’m like you, I can’t stand cleaning huge messes – mud, finger paint etc. I really need to let my kids do more of it though, they enjoy it so much.

    love the shot.

Also, if I left the kids all muddy hubs would probably not get the hint. Altho if the kids were left muddy now I would just yell at them because they needed to take a shower. (the beauty of the 12 and 15 year olds)

Absolutely genius! I too, decided to ‘run to the store’ for bread and milk about 0.2241 seconds before ‘bathtime’ yesterday evening. Something my hubs claims to be ‘unable’ to do due to his ‘bad back’ on account of him having carried both kids for nine months in utero. Oh wait, that was *me*. So off I go to the store, and LO and behold on my return both kids were bathed and in their jammies.

    Cheers to smart mummies!
