We took the kids out on the lake for the first time.
After a few hours of swimming, it was time for lunch and I pulled out the sandwiches I’d packed in the cooler. Carson began eating his sandwich and exclaimed, “Mom! This is a great sandwich! Can you make these lake sandwiches again, sometime?!” As he ate, he kept proclaiming the deliciousness of the “lake sandwiches” I prepared.
He liked his so much that he ate Tate’s sandwich, too.
Since Carson was such a fan, I thought I’d share the very special recipe for the Lake Sandwiches.
Sliced ham, swiss cheese, mustard, and bibb lettuce between two slices of whole wheat bread. Pack in a cooler. Swim in the lake for two hours and become ravenously hungry. Eat the sandwich, but fail to recognize it as the exact sandwich you’ve eaten two to three times per week for probably the last three years. Voila!

Lakes have amazing properties of make-it-awesomeness. Truly. I married a lake boy

I grew up visiting my grandmother at her pond house (where my mom lives now) and would get so amazingly hungry while I was there. I agree, everything tastes better at the pond (or lake!).

My mom used to pack hard boiled eggs to the lake. They were THE best eggs ever!

Kind of how when I make one of my mom’s recipes, it’s just NOT the same. She puts some magical Mom Stuff in them that makes them all taste better

hahahaha! we have “mall chicken” at our house. little does he realize, it’s the same grilled chicken we eat at home, just packed in a bag to eat in the mall food court. LOL. what’s funny is, occasionally i WILL get chicken at the mall, and he’s equally excited about either option. silly kids

We don’t have lakes here, but I think lake sandwiches are the same as beach spam musubis.
For those not from Hawaii that probably sounds disgusting, but they really are quite good under the same circumstances as a lake sandwich – delicious after swimming and playing at the beach for a few hours.

the brilliance, of course, is in the appetizer you prepared: swimming in the lake. you should have your own cooking show.

mmmm…now I want lake sandwiches!!!

He’s right of course. they do taste better. Kind of like when you steal a potato chip off someone else’s plate…it always tastes better when it’s someone else’s.
Anyway, where was I?
Oh! I was going to tell you about how we call Top Ramen with hard boiled egg cut up in it and cheese “Rocket Soup”. The Boy hated top ramen until one day I made it and he asked what it was. I threw the question back to him “what do you think it is” and he declared “ROCKET SOUP!!” It’s stuck and he’s eaten it EVERY time! LOVE the innocence.

I love it! Hunger and a hot day definitely make things taste better (unless they get too hot and then they get gooey and that’s just gross…).

Now that’s clever momming! At least you’ll know what to call them for those times when a sandwich is all there is time for, yet the kids balk
