My friend Pauline wrote a book and it came in the mail on Saturday. It was an early Christmas present to myself and Carson and Ella.
She’s my Polish-American friend who has taught me so much about her culture, through her recipes and stories…and now her book, Wigilia. I can’t stop walking around saying it, vee-GHEEL-yah! vee-GHEEL-yah!
Her book is beautiful, both the story and the illustrations, and tells the tale about her family’s Polish Christmas Eve celebration. You can order a copy of Wigilia (vee-GHEEL-yah!) for your family, today is the last day you can order the book to get it in time for Christmas.
Disclosure: I bought this book with my own money. Pauline has no idea that I’m writing about her book. I hope she knows how much I loved it and how proud of her that I am.

Thanks for posting about this! I was born in Poland but moved with my parents to the US when I was 3. Now that I have two kids of my own I want to be able to pass some of my Polish traditions onto them, but its difficult not living near my parents and my husbands relatives being all American. Can’t wait to get this book!
I just ordered it. Crossing my fingers that it makes it here before Christmas.
My husband’s family is Polish (his mom’s side, that is, because of course “Long” is not so Polish, right?). I, however, am simply Southern. I know nothing but sweet tea and grits.
I’ve tried to incorporate what I can of his memories of a Polish Christmas – but this book sounds perfect for helping me do even more. Yay! More pickled herring!!! More pierogi!!!
