Eet’s a Meestery

I’m sure that this is an oft blogged about topic in land of mommyblogs. What happens to all the sippy cups? Where do they go? Is there a wasteland of half-full (or half-empty…however you look at it) sippy cups somewhere?

Yesterday when emptying the dishwasher, I noticed that there were waaaay more lids than cups. I thought to myself, “Self, the cups must be in the cupboard, waiting patiently for the return of their lids.”

No such luck. No sad and lonely cups in the cupboard. Just a bunch of lids sans cups.

I checked all of Peanut’s hiding places. I’ve checked under the coffee table. Under the couches. In his room. In the car (which I never let him have but one special cup in the car that IS actually leak proof).

I did not check in the garbage. We can afford more.

I thought to blame Tate. (I’m good at blaming.) Surely he had something to do with the cups disappearances. But, really, what would he want with the cups? He knows not to come to me for the ransom, I’m not good for it. And, the cups are too small for his beers. So, I guess I can scratch him off my list.

My dogs aren’t smart enough or tall enough to steal sippy cups.

Is it the dishwasher? I think the cups are a wee too big to fit in the drain.

I am thoroughly confused!

Am I the only one who has this problem? Am I just crazy? Don’t answer the part about me being crazy, please.

  1. Perhaps they are keeping my socks company while they are away.

  2. Stinkfoot has one cup.
I never had a sippy problem.

Socks in the dryer…THAT’S another issue.

  3. I think aliens come steal them in middle of the night. That’s the only reason I can think of, and since they’re grown up aliens, they leave the lids in the sink and just take the cups.

  4. Well, if you are like Sara, they are at my house along with your kid’s shoes. Bwahahaha!

For a minute there, I thought a girl named April wrote this blog when you started in with the “Self, the cups must be….” You know what I’m talking about!

  5. We are always losing sippy cups around here, too. Kevin is always finding new and exciting places to hide them. I will cave, buy new cups, then he will pull one out of hiding. It’s a great game, lots of fun!

  6. Your sippy cups and my tupperware lids may, or may not have joined the witness protection program, never to be seen again.

  7. Who ever keeps taking your sippy cups is taking one of each of R’s shoes and my keys.

  9. I suspect these sippy cups are with my bobby pins. And extra set of keys. And free time. Because all have mysteriously disappeared.

  10. It’s a conspiracy. The sippy cups and socks are planning to revolt against homemakers!

  11. I think they are like missing socks…I have at least 15 socks with no pairs:-) I just buy two sippy cups…one for each child and periodically buy new ones when they have had enough use…I just threw out a whole bunch of mismatched/missing parts sippy cups yesterday!

  12. Hate the disappearing sippy cups phenomenon. I find mine usually a few days (okay, weeks) later tucked behind a couch cushion full of rancid curdled milk. Sweet.

  13. What, you mean it’s actually a widespread phenomenon? *dawning realization that I am not alone…* At least you still have lids in case your cups come home someday. I seem to lose the entire thing at once!

  14. I have no clue where they go? Must be with the socks, hair brushes, and pens. Because you can never find them either.
