Point, Counterpoint

Point: Tate, you always leave your socks lying around.

Counterpoint: Jennifer, you always leave multiple pairs of shoes lying around for us to trip over. In fact I just put away two pairs of your shoes. Why don’t you post pictures of your shoes lying around, huh?

Point taken, Tate. Point taken.

These are the remaining two pairs of shoes that Tate hadn’t put away yet, says Jennifer, sheepishly.

  1. I am like that with flip flops. When my shoe hanger thingy in my closet gets empty, I go flip-flop hunting….they are under my desk, at the table, outside the back door, …..

    btw, love those wedges!!

  4. Oh, wow, I bet it’s totally on now, huh?

But (and I may have also, once or twice, had a similar, er, discussion with Hubby) shoes are supposed to go on the floor. They are not supposed to go into the hamper. Unlike, oh, socks, for example.

(This did not cure the socks thing, but he did shut up about the shoes)

  6. heheh … mind you, I have to leave my shoes out - the Magpie likes to play with them. can’t deprive her of her toddler games, now can I?

    besides: socks are ickier.

  11. Shoes are different: shoes will be worn again. Removed shoes can be scattered.

Removed socks go in ONE PLACE, and that’s the laundry. And it’s just as easy to put them in the laundry as on the floor.

    You’re still winning this one.

  12. I do the same thing. And, now the tyke’s starting to follow suit - with “I kick my shoes off,” as we walk in the back door. Am going to get a basket to stick there & just toss them all in. Good luck. Tate shouldn’t try to outfox you. It’s not fair.

  13. ooh, I’m so guilty of this too. *blushes*

  14. Yes, ideally shoes would be put away in a closet, basket, shelf, etc. But there is only one place for dirty socks, and that is the laundry basket.

  15. You need to point out to him that cute shoes are allowed to be left out to be seen but dirty socks are not.

  16. socks are a WAY worse offense!

(and not just because i’m sooo guilty of the shoe thing…)

  17. I’m guilty too, but I don’t think there’s a double standard! Yes, stuff on the floor is stuff on the floor however who left it there makes all the diffeence.

It’s one thing to have to look at your own mess and know you have to pick it up. Kids…kind of the same…Husband different…it’s his mess, he knows better, I’m not HIS mom….and yet I end up cleaning it up…

I have to commend you for posting pictures and evidence of Tate’s “counterpoint.”

    Well done.

  24. Oh, you’re still winning this one. Nobody would like to see his dirty stinky socks, but your shoes, they are cute. NEVER ADMIT DEFEAT! Women stand united. Now lets go burn our bras or something.

  25. I’m also guilty of the shoes. My excuse? Can’t just leave Little Elvis by himself while I run to the closet to free my feet and put up the shoes. That’s why they end up in the living room. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

  26. Mr. C leaves his balled-up dirty socks on my kitchen counter. ON MY COUNTER.

If we were to split, the legal cause would be “DIRTY SOCKS ON COUNTER.”

  27. Yeah, but at least the shoes are cute! The dirty socks? Notsomuch.

  29. But you might need to put ON the shoes again, quickly- like to run out of the house and do something important! Socks- you just cant throw socks on fast and run will-nilly. Shoes are totally justified. I have 3 paid here with me now.

  30. I have to agree with some of the others’ comments — a pair of shoes isn’t as offensive as dirty socks!

(of course, that’s because I kick mine off wherever just as soon as I get home each day)

  35. Those first shoes are cute. But wait, since he picks up your shoes, does that mean you have to pick up his smelly socks? I would say no but thats just me.

  36. That’s why we don’t wear shoes in the house… I still say you’re allowed, though, and he’s not. I’m not sure why, just because.

  37. Poor Jennifer. Totally busted. But at least you have cute shoes!

On a side note, I need to steal this idea and do my own post. And we’re not talking about JUST socks lying around the house. I feel your pain on that one.

  38. Exact same case here at casa del Meyer…and thus I refrain from it when I have an uncounterable offense of his that I want dealt with - because it seems that no matter the point I start with, because I leave the shoes out I have no legitimate beef.
