This and That, Boring Blog Business

Okay, so I’m pretty sure I’ve completed my transition over here to my new digs.  Thanks to Sara and Sam, I was able to figure out plugins and get my header centered (centred for all you Canadian readers, thanks Teri!) in all browsers.  If my header is still on the left, try refreshing your browser.

***********

Also, if you are a subscriber, let me know if my new address didn’t update for you.  I tried to fix it so that you didn’t have to re-subscribe.

***********

I was shocked by the number of you who mentioned how quickly this new site loaded.   My old site loaded just fine on my computer so I was unaware that this problem was rampant.  Only tommiehad let me know that she had trouble accessing my site.  The rest of you never told me!  How can we have a relationship if you’re not honest with me and tell me your troubles??!!   Please tell me if you ever have trouble again.  I’m trying to keep my sidebars a little less “junky” so that should help.

Thanks for sticking with me, even when my site was loading slowly for you.

************

So now that I’m all moved, would you all mind updating your blogrolls?  I know it’s a huge pain in the arse, but when I see my technorati rank is 0, I get hives.

***********

One of the reasons I wanted to switch to Wordpress was so that I could respond to all of your comments.   Apparently I didn’t think this through sufficiently, as I didn’t realize the amount of time it would take to respond to EVERY.  SINGLE.  COMMENT.  Oy.  I’ve only made it through about half of the comments on my last post.  Soooooo, I’ll respond as I can, but it won’t be to EVERY.  SINGLE.  COMMENT.

***********

What’s that saying about beating a dead horse?  Anyway, I guess I’m going to have to break down and watch The Sound of Music and Braveheart.  You all have made me feel like I’m missing something.  I hate the thought that I’m somehow out of the loop.   Also, I couldn’t believe the number of you who said you hated/despised/loathed It’s a Wonderful Life!  Wow.  Just wow.   It’s one of my favorite Christmas movies, “every time a bell rings an angel gets it’s wings!”  Ahhh.

So here’s the pressing question of the day, What is your favorite Christmas movie?  Mine is not technically a Christmas movie, I suppose, but it’s set at Christmas time…Love Actually.  Not only is this my favorite “Christmas” movie, it’s my favorite movie of all time and eternity.  If you don’t like this movie, I think we should reconsider our friendship. Just kidding.  Sort of.  Not really.

*********

I promise that one of these days I’ll be back to posting with real content.  Not just movie discussions.  Thanks for playing along, though.

Favorite Christmas movie is Elf. Will Farrell makes me laugh out loud.

  4. ‘Centred’ looks great to me ;)

I love Love Actually - or any other movie that uses ‘bollocks’ rampantly in the script - it’s such a juicy and satisfying word and covers so many scenarios. Not one I’d want the kiddies repeating mind you!

  5. It was always slow to load for me but I just blamed that on my stupid internet provider.
(and I’ve never seen Love actually, never.)

  6. Looks good to me! I’ll be making the move to wordpress probably by the end of the week. I’ve got everything up and running I think, but I’ve gotten some stupid dumb error a few times that I don’t know how to fix. I’m kinda dumb at wordpress!

    Love your new site, though!

  8. It is hard to decide on a favorite Christmas movie because it depends on my mood. If I want traditional I watch A Christmas Story. If I want humorous I watch Christmas Vacation. If I want to get all sappy and sweet I watch its a wonderful life. If I want romantic I watch The Holiday. They are all great movies in their own special way.

  9. Meet Me In St. Louis….MY all time favorite holiday movie.

  10. I went on spring break and met a guy that looked EXACTLY like the kid from A Christmas Story. Exactly.

That;s a great movie, I love that TBS plays it over and over on Christmas day!

  11. My fave (When Harry Met Sally) isn’t exactly a Xmas movie either, but I always watch every year when I wrap presents. For an actual Xmas movie it’s a toss up between Robbie the Reindeer and Charlie Brown.

  12. Well, I hope you have better luck on this site! I didn’t know that the slow loading of your other page was happening to other people…I thought it was just my computer…OOPSIES!

My favorite christmas movie is most definately Christmas Vacation. It is not officially the Christmas season until I see that film.

  13. I love the Santa Clause movies. I think it’s because my kids and I watched those for the first time together. Before kids, my favorite was It’s A Wonderful Life.

  14. For many years (a decade, give or take a year), I was a complete Scrooge about Christmas - due to losing my mom, dad, grandparents and best friend around the holidays over the course of a few years. No cards, lights, trees or even gifts. Definitely NO movies!

A few years ago a friend who knew about my ‘dark sense of humour’ suggested that I watch the movie “Bad Santa” featuring Billy Bob Thornton. I did and, well, that’s now my favourite holiday movie - albeit one that’s unlikely to come on TV and is completely inappropriate for children. :) I like it so much, in fact, that it’s on my PalmTX, my laptop and my desktop computer for ‘emergency’ viewing purposes…

This year we’re nearing the very end of the adoption process to bring home 3 boys (aged 10, 7 and 4) and I’m finding the “Christmas Spirit” slowly returning as I prepare to view it through a child’s eyes again. The boys will be moving in with us shortly after Christmas and we’re going to have a ‘late’ Christmas for them, too, where we’ll watch Rudolph and Charlie Brown and all the classics.

But ‘Bad Santa’ will always remain my secret favourite movie.

Congrats on the big move! I’ve been contemplating one myself!!! Glad the transition was (relatively) easy for you!!!

  19. I’ll go fix my blogroll right now. I’ve been thinking about making this move too.

Favorite Christmas movie? Hmmm, probably New York City Ballet’s movie version of The Nutcracker.

  20. yes - you have to watch Braveheart!! I want to watch Love Actually again now, but I already packed it. bummer.
The blog never loaded slow for me btw.

  21. Wow- my name and e-mail came up automatically!! I never thought about it much but it did take a while for your other site to load.
And, my fave Christmas movie of all time is Elf. Before that it was A Christmas Story. I have never seen It’s a Wonderful Life because it is old and I have a hard time getting into the old movies. I did like Miracle on 34th Street though.

  22. My favorite is Miracle on 34th street.

I saw on your side bar you attempted pictures today - so did we. Liam still doesn’t sit up too well, but luckily for me, Quinn LOVES the camera. I think we got a few good ones of Quinn smiling and Liam looking oh so serious - which is just how he is - oh so serious.

  23. MH and Cathy!!!

How could I have failed to mention Miracle on 34th Street!! It’s my 2nd fave Christmas movie. Only the original version will do. There is a really terrible mid 70’s version. Terrible.

  24. Jennifer - Have you seen the newish Miracle on 34th Street with Dylan McDermott? I quite like that one. I also love Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and Love Actually. My favorite Christmas movie is definitely It’s a Wonderful Life. I used to watch it every year with my dad and it still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And thanks for continuing to think of us Canadians…

  25. I totally love It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s my fav. Chrissy movie, too.

I thought you knew your site took five minutes to load? This new one? Almost instantly! It’s heaven.

And, I like Love Actually except the political overtones. I don’t like being preached at..and being made fun of for being an elephant.

  26. I can’t believe no one has said “The Preacher’s Wife” (remake of “The Bishop’s Wife” with Cary Grant.) There is nothing much better than Whitney singing some Christmas carols with WONDERFUL choir for backup.

The Christmas Story is a LONG tradition in my family! MY favorite lines are “NOT A FINGER!” and “fuuuuuuudge…”

Also, I LOVE “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and NOT the Jim Carrey one - the original, cartoon one all the way.

There’s a new made-for-tv one “The Christmas Child” that was on Lifetime or something last week. It has Steven Curtis Chapman in it. It’s very good.

Now about your site, it looks great. When I clicked to leave a comment, all your right hand sidebars dropped down below all the comments and even the Comment box.

  28. I absolutely ADORE Love Actually. I was just thinking about that movie driving home yesterday. Weird. But my favorite Christmas Movie has to be Christmas Vacation. Christmas is not complete until I watch that!

  30. I love Love Actually too - you should check out The Holiday with Jack Black and Kate Winslet. It’s reall cute and kinda Christmas-y.

I’m a sucker for The Santa Claus…cheesy, but it amuses me.

  31. Yeah, I know I’m a freak about It’s a Wonderful Life. My family reminds me repeatedly.

I have never seen Love Actually. Now it’s gotta go in my Netflix queue.

I’m a sucker for all the old-school Christmas kids shows: Rudolph, the Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas. (Not really movies, but they’re my favorites.)

I’ve never seen Love Actually, but now I will, maybe today.

  34. I love Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby. It’s my favorite holiday film. Drives my husband crazy. He says it is disturbing how high the men were wearing the waists on their pants back then.

I’d also like to think I’m above it but I’m not. I love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Don’t tell anyone.

  36. I adore Love, Actually and cry every time the guy does his cue card thing for Keira Knightly. Why I cry there and nowhere else, I don’t know.

My other favorite vaguely Christmas movie is While You Were Sleeping. I LOVE that movie more than is reasonable. Never has Bill Pullman been so dreamy.

I’m not a traditional Christmas movie fan. I have to say I’ve never sat through all of It’s A Wonderful Life OR A Christmas Story. I think you get to a certain age and it’s just too late for you. I’ll never love them like others do.

  39. I think that my favorite Christmas movie is Frosty the Snowman, although Miracle on 34th Street is a close (very close!) second.

  42. My fav, like so many others, is A Christmas Story. What is not to love about this one? And, a close second is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation; my husband and I watch it every year and laugh when the cat dies from chewing through the lights. every. time. We keep waiting on our cat to do the same.

Congrats on the new place. FYI: I had trouble loading your old site before I switched to Firefox.

  47. It’s a tie between White Christmas & Elf. Depends on my mood. And, since I’ve had children I’ve re-fallen in love with Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. We used to watch it every Christmas when I was a kid. So sweet, so simple. Actually, that can be said for all three of my movies.
Oh, and this is weird and kind of goes along with your never having seen Sound of Music (WTF?) but I’ve never been able to make it all the way through It’s a Wonderful Life. I’ve only seen bits and pieces of it at a time. Hmmm…
