Daphne, She’s the Hot One, Right? Then I Want to Be Daphne

Tate is completely incapable of keeping my Christmas gifts a secret.  Ever since the beginning of our relationship, I’ve somehow figured out what my gifts were going to be.  Not only do I have extensive detective training from all my years of watching Scooby Doo, but Tate is a bumbling idiot when it comes to hiding the evidence of his purchases.

So far this year, I’ve found out that I’m getting a calendar which was delivered by the UPS man in a box with the words CALENDARS.COM in big! bold! letters.   Usually when Tate orders something online for me, he gives me a heads up and tells me not to pick up any of the packages left by the UPS man.  This year he forgot.

The other night when I was wrapping presents (I went ahead and wrapped my calendar *rolls eyes*), I needed to look under the bed for more boxes.  Guess what I found?  That’s right, Scooby, I found another one of my gifts, a digital frame keychain.     Tate won this keychain at his company’s annual Christmas party, but he’s trying to pass it off as a gift he went out and purchased himself.  Apparently he’s forgotten about my super sleuth skills (the gift had a sticker that made it obviously a company gift.)  This gift luckily is accompanied by a funny story, so that in the future I can say things like, “remember the year you regifted that keychain to me, your wife?”  By the way, I went ahead and wrapped this gift, too.

A few weeks ago, Tate was on the phone with his mother when he came into the living room and attempted to non-chalantly pick up the Land’s End catalog.  In a very exaggerated tone, I heard him say to his mom, “I wanted to talk to you about Carson’s gift….,” then in hushed tones in the other room, I heard him say,”Okay, I really wanted to tell you about the things Jennifer wants out of Land’s End.”  My detective skills are really being put to the test.  Gee, I wonder what I’ll be getting from my in-laws?  Hmmm.

Last year, I found the post-it note with all his purchases stuck on the inside of our desk drawer….a drawer I used most everyday.  Other years, I’ve been reconciling the checkbook and come across purchases at stores like The Limited and Ann Taylor.  It doesn’t take Velma to figure out that he’s purchased something at these women’s stores for me.  Even my engagement ring wasn’t a surprise, since the jeweler left a message on our answering machine saying the ring was ready for pickup.

I’m hoping that I’ll at least get one complete surprise, even if it’s a cheesy coffee cup.

What are you getting for Christmas?

I always know what I’m getting, too. I so badly want to be surprised, but my husband can’t stand to wait to tell me what he bought, or he does something silly like have things delivered to the house. This year he used my ebay account to do some shopping. You know, because I would never think to look there.

How is your site loading so much better? What did you do differently??

And uh, yeah. I want to feel sorry for you, with your no surprise Christmas and all, but you’re getting some good stuff, girl (or at least from good stores!).

I may, MAY get two of the items crossed off of my Honey-Do In Lieu of Gift List.

    Daphne.

p.s. the reason I never told you about your slow load is because it would take so long that I would read, sometimes comment, and move on…I would always forget to mention it.

Men are so…clueless sometimes! My hubby did the same engagement ring thing…had the bill sent to the house we shared so I saw it when I got home early and got the mail. To this day, he still has NO IDEA I knew! So don’t tell him.
I guess it’s the thought that counts, right?!

My mom is going to take me thrifty/antique shopping when I go home for my holiday visit! Other than that, I am not sure. I am pretty sure my husband won’t be getting me anything. We tend to buy ourselves whatever we want throughout the year, so Christmas is about my kids, for me, and visiting family. I never get surprises (unless they’re totally bad ones, but that’s a topic for MY blog someday).

I got a Christmas wreath from my MIL. I picked it out and ordered it from Restoration Hardware with her credit card, because she can’t handle online shopping. It arrived and is currently hanging on my door…

I’ll be surprised if my Husband even remembers to get me anything. Last year, he tried to pass off a Christmas/B-day gift. Ummm, my birthday is in JUNE.

I just blogged about my gift. He has done well this year. He CLAIMS that he has some other thing(s) to give me later too, but we’ll see. My birthday is 2 weeks after Christmas, so I get a lot of “this is for Christmas and your birthday” crap.

aw, but he’s trying! (okay, except for that regifting thing…)

over the last few years, we’ve degenerated into discussing joint Christmas gifts before hand. that way, we can justify bigger and better gifts if it’s something we both get for each other!

Yes, Daphne is the hot one. And the reason I know that so well is that the Scooby Doo DVD series literally plays CONSTANTLY in my house since I got it for my daughter on her birthday in October. Yes, it is playing right this second for my 2 yo. Yes, the show is driving me nutty.

Anyway, we often buy nothing for each other (to save $$) but I would love pjs from my husband – not frilly, impractical ones, but cozy, comfy ones. Or Bath and body works stuff – because I never buy it for myself. Or perfume. Or anything other than what he bought me last year – white athletic socks. I am not kidding. ugh.

Not to sound too snippy, but you claim yourself to be a “good sleuth” but then blame him? Zoiks!!!

My wife is the same way with sleuthing… but I was far less the “opps” as much as she is completely insane about trying to find out ahead of time.

I opened my own checking/debit account and have all the presents shipped to THE OFFICE, and do not bring them home until time for presentation (whether that is birthday, holiday, whatever).

I’m getting a whole lot of nothing for Christmas. The hubby is still unemployed, and my parents gave me my Christmas gift early in the form of new snow tires. Yeah me.

Ah, yes. The husbands’ tomfoolery at Christmas. The regifting? The wrapping of your own gift? That’s awful. When Jay buys me gifts they are usually quite thoughtful and surprising – well, except for when he “gives” me a promise of a magazine subscription or upgrading my blog or something and hasn’t actually bought anything. Then I have to nag him for months to follow through and usually end up buying it myself. Nice. Apparently with him it really is the thought that counts…

This year we’re not exchanging gifts. Our gift to each other shall be a spanking new laptop that will be purchased during the Boxing Day madness.

Hubby and I don’t do a lot in the way of Christmas gifts to one another. Just a few small things here and there because we try and concentrate our funds on the kids and other family.
But when he what he gets me is generally good…uh except for the one year when he got me a level (you know the think to make sure pictures are hung straight) not sure what in the hell was up with that.

last year, i got an ipod that my hubby bought off one of his students. this year, by default, i got a digital camera for hanukkah. he went to the store to replace the crappy ones that i bought for my kids. he came home with a nice one, that he thought they should share. i had a fit because i didn’t want them to have to share it…he couldn’t return it so, he gave it to me and called it a present! that’s fine with me! now, i have to figure out how to use it!

at least for me…. i’m a dork, and when i was in high school, i wrapped my own gifts from my family.
the difference is….. i wouldn’t peek in the boxes! i just knew my name was on the outside so i could put the tag.

part of the magic of xmas for me is the surprises. (even if they’re small)

i really hate this for you,

As hard as the UPS man tried to hide my gift (and he was successful), I’m pretty sure it’s a Kitchen Aid mixer. The mack daddy.

Because my husband wanted me to open it now. Before the baking began.

The regifting of the digital keychain is too funny.

I harbor secret fantasies of receiving diamonds for Christmas, but I know that’s only a fantasy. Something arrived from Amazon yesterday, so I’m guessing I’ll be receiving a book.

In order to get what I wanted I gave my husband access to an excel file I created in Google Docs, which I update whenever I think of something I want. It’s getting long enough now that for the next 5 years I am sure to never again hear those words “I never know what to buy you!” I think I am getting a photography course, which is good because that is the one I really wanted!

Well I’m terrible at this as well. I can’t keep a secret and I don’t want one kept from me. I actually went out and bought my own present from hubs last night. Picked it up and everything, didn’t even pretend by wrapping it just busted it right out when I got home. Then I made him open his so I wasn’t the only one getting presents. I’m not real big on the surprises or the waiting. :)

The family as a whole is, has gotten a new computer. I told my husband no gifts for us, just the kids! He keeps asking me what I want. I told him peace in this house and children who behave. He keeps telling me to dream on! And Scooby Doo rocks on teaching us how to snoop! I rarely get a surprise for Christmas, I know when he leaves to get it (Honey, I am going to get your gift, be back in a few hours!), I know what I am getting (What size jeans do you wear now? What is you shirt size this year? Do you need new tennis shoes or did your mom get you a pair?), and I know where he hides it (Sis will get your present over here after she wraps it.). So atleast yours “tries” to hide your gifts.
