Haiku Plugins

Haiku Friday

(I apologize in advance for those of you who will find this post to be yawn-inducing.)

So many plugins
Some are so complicated
Wordpress dummy here

For those of you who use Wordpress, what are your favorite plugins?  Also, what plugins do you think are must-haves?

So far I’m using Google Analytics, Feedsmith, Comment Luv, Akismet, Do Follow, Highlight Author Comments, Subscribe to comments, Simple Feed Copyright, and MyBlogLog.  I also just downloaded the All-in-One-SEO pack and have NO idea what the hizeck I’m supposed to do with it…even after reading the FAQ’s, thus making me the aforementioned “Wordpress dummy.”

Help a mutha out.  What else do I need?

*******

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). We will delete your link if it doesn’t go to a haiku. If you need help with this, contact Christina or myself.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.

  16. Hi, Jennifer,

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. :)

Whenever I have any technical questions about my blog, I ask my son (who works at Microsoft) to help me out. He doesn’t have the patience to explain what I should do, but just types a mile a minute and clicks and does a little magic until - voila - the desired change has been made, but I am none the wiser. :(

Hope you get it all figured out.

  24. I am even more clueless. I wonder if I can use those plugins for Wordpress.com blogs?

Santa was supposed to bring me a domain name thingy, but forgot like he does every freaking year and bought me a bluetooth mouse on Christmas eve that I despise…… Laptop on lap and cordless mouse? Recipe for disaster….

  26. You use all the plugins I do, and then some. I love to just sit and browse through them. I tried installing a poll one, but even though it is installed, it’s still not showing up in my plugins for me to activate. And I have lots of things I want to poll about!

  27. I am a total plugin slut. I’ve even re-coded some of them, and believe me, I have *no* place trying to do that.

    So:

    1. Executable PHP: I have this only so I can include little stock “snippets” using php include calls. If you don’t know what that means, you don’t need them.

    2. FeedBurner FeedSmith, so I don’t have to deal with RSS feed issues (FeedBurner takes care of it).

    3. Google Sitemaps.

    4. LinkLove, so people who comment 10 times on my blog automatically get follow links.

    5. MyAvatars, MyGravatars, and MyBlogLog — so I can get those regular visitor lists.

    6. opml-browser widget: So my blogroll comes straight off my Google Reader blog list, rather than me having to manage it myself.

    7. Popularity Contest: So I can have a “10 favorite posts” list.

    8. Post List by Category or Field: I wrote this myself so I can create a list of posts that are in a particular category. For example, I have a group of posts called “What’s it like to be a stay-at-home dad” and another that are tagged “favorite.”

    9. Post Stumbler.

    10. Similar Posts.

    11. Twitter Tools.

And a few more. I totally heart plugins. Beats me why! I just love to customize, I guess…

    :),

  32. I use an embarassing amount of plugins- just a few that haven’t been mentioned:

In Series- great for creating a series of connected posts.
    IMM Glossary
    Alinks

My absolute favorite is Urban Giraffe’s Redirection plugin. It has really saved me from 404 errors when I change the a post’s title, which changes its slug, which changes its url. If the the page has already been indexed then you need to redirect from the old to the new post and this plugin does it automatically for you. You can also use it for any other kind of redirect.
