Discombobulated

These few days after Christmas are always so discombobulating.

I love having all this new stuff!

But…where is it all supposed to go?  There’s too MUCH stuff already.  I will NEVER get it all put away.  NEVER. *runs away sobbing*

I love Christmas decorations!

But…now that Christmas is over, it just looks like clutter.  And sadly, it’s clutter that I’ll be cleaning and packing away.  Alone.  Except for the two small children I mind each day.

Aaah, the scent of Christmas candles!

But…the smell is making me nauseous.  How about some Clean Laundry scent instead?  Anything but evergreen or gingerbread or Christmas cookie.  Blech.

Some of my favorite possessions are my Christmas ornaments!

But…they are getting on my nerves, taunting me from their places on the tree, “you have to put each one of (hundreds in all)** back into our boxes.  It will take you hours.  Mwa ha ha ha.”

Mmmm, pie!  Cookies!  Delectable herb-crusted pork with green beans and loaded baked potato casserole!!

But…the thought of eating anything besides celery and water makes me feel like I may possibly explode.  *Kaboom*

**total exaggeration.

  2. I’m looking forward to packing it all up - we’ve got a small house and I swear the tree takes up half of our living/family/play room.
I highly recommend getting an ornament storage thingy. I used to keep all our ornaments in their own little boxes and then I realized Why the heck am I saving these boxes? For resale value? Who’s going to want our old ornaments and would I ever really want to give them away. So last year I pitched all those little tiny boxes and got a nice big ornament storage thing from The Container Store. Pack up time was so quick and then this year putting the ornaments on the tree went much quicker.

  3. I know what you mean — I always think that I will NEVER find a place to put all the new stuff I get every December. But it always seems to find a place…

I love my Christmas decorations, and I don’t want to take them down yet, but I have to agree…now that the holiday is over, they feel sort of like ‘clutter’ which makes me crazy. Perhaps we should all start celebrating the 12 days of Christmas so that it’s enjoyable for just a little bit longer…

  4. I hear ya. My pre-New Years resolution is to get all this crap put away so I can start 2008 with a clean, organized house. Ha! At least a somewhat picked up house. Now I need to find a place for all the new stuff I bought at Target for 50% off….
    Good luck!

  7. Discombobawhat?

What kind of Canadian $5 word is THAT?!?

We should have a tree de-decorating party. Think of all of the beer cans we’d find under it. We could take ‘em in for recycling, cash in and have a nice dinner out at the Golden Corral!

  14. OH yes. I hear you. My sons toys are in a box in the middle of the floor. STILL. And today I get the job of cleaning and putting away all the Christmas decorations. They came out of 17 boxes. Oh, yeah. I am that mad. Lets not mention the 7 Christmas trees, two of which are real and need to be disposed of somehow.

My teen girls are conveniently at friends houses and my son will spend the whole time screaming at me to not throw away Christmas.

Someone pass the coffee. It is going to be a looooooooong day.

  16. Most of the clean-up has been done (we didn’t do much since Little Elvis likes shiny things so much.) But now that the boxes are packed up outside, I keep finding Christmas decorations that I left out. I now have a pile of stuff to take out and cram into the carefully packed boxes. Oh well.

  17. Loaded baked potato casserole? Is it from Emeril? My MIL made that this year and it was sooooo yummy.

And I am stuck in that discombobulated place to. I HATE it. I have no where to put all this CRAP. Ugh. I need to clean my house but I JUST CAN’T. *runs away with you, sobbing*

  27. I feel exactly the same way. I was just telling Nick that the house looks like a disaster. It’s just a huge cluttered mess. I asked if I could take down the Christmas cards and get rid of them and he said no, not yet. I’m ready for it to all be gone.
