What a Crock

Have you ever toiled over preparing a meal that included lots of can opening and chopping and LOVE, then put it all in a crock pot and fail to actually plug it in, thus rendering a completely inedible meal come dinner time?

No?

Oh.  Well, me either.

    Oh man!
Never did that, but when I was still a crock pot newbie I put together some meal the night before and found that there was no room in the fridge for it. No problem, I thought. I’ll just start it cooking now since it was almost 2am – and i’ll just put it on low. Yeah. 15 hours in the crock pot does not work for anything. Ugh.

    Almost…
Just last Monday night, I had it all ‘put together’ and ready for Tuesday morning, and forgot to take it out of the fridge b4 I took Charity to school. So we just had to eat about 1 1/2 hours late that night.

I’ve not done that YET, but of course you’ve cursed us all now.

My thing is forgetting to start the dryer after I’ve put all the wet clothes in. I guess I rely on the buzzer a little too much, because I will inevitably forget it’s in there until it’s nice and mildewy. I also forget to close the lid on the washer, and the clothes soak a good, long time until I finally go check on them.

Which sucks when you were just running a quick load so someone has a clean outfit for ballet class.

A scene from our house the other day:
ME: Honey, you left this good meat out. Now it’s rotten. You have to be more careful!
HIM: Sorry. I don’t remember doing that, but sorry.
(Then I look in the bag and realize it’s stuff I bought and forgot to put away.)
    ME: Oh crap!

OMG…I just did that a few weeks ago.

I woke up early to put the stuff into the crockpot. Hubby was out of town so I knew I would not have time to cook dinner that night. Got it all ready, but thought I would wait until we were ready to leave to turn it on, since it would have cooked for like 10 hours.

I drop the kids off at daycare and drive to work. Maybe an hour later, something hit me, and Oh Crap! I forgot to turn the crockpot on!

I called my mother in law, since I didn’t want to waste the food in it, and again…I wouldn’t have time to cook.
She ran over and turned it on for me, thank god.

And you know what…I did it again a few days later! And again, my mother in law ran over and turned it on!

No, I have never done that; but only because I can’t leave well enough alone. I like to poke and prod things too much and would discover it. Oh, and while I’m at it, I’m also a freak and won’t leave the crockpot on if I’m leaving for any great lengths of time. If I’m just running out for an hour two, fine; but not through a work day. Yes, I realize this kind-of defeats the purpose.

Otherwise, that would totally be something I would do. Totally.
