This is What Happens When You’re Stuck in a 700 Square Foot Apartment

I know lots of moms out there have really fantastic and educational activities to do with their children, especially during these long winters days when we’re stuck inside.  (I don’t actually know any moms like this, but I’m certain you exist.  And that you have perky boobs and no backfat.  Good for you.  Hmph.)

Well some of us (read:  ME) are not so good at coming up with fun things to do with our kids.   I racked and racked my brain yesterday, but the best I could come up with was, “just go play and leave me alone with the Internet, CARSON.”  Poor kid.

Luckily my little man was able to entertain himself.  You just KNOW he doesn’t actually have any toys (not) and had to play with the toilet plunger I bought and haven’t used yet (gross, I’m not THAT bad of a mom)…

And what kid doesn’t love vacuum attachments…

He tried to figure out how to make the DVD player work since his mean mommy was trying to catch up on All My Children (Yay! Greenlee is back and Angie and Jesse who died waaaay back in the 80’s!!)  (Look, there’s only so much Thomas I can take.  It was MY turn to watch the TV, okay?)

So what do you DO with your children?  Anything more enriching than letting your kids watch “educational programming” like Thomas and All My Children

Precisely why mine are in preschool until 12:30 every day! Let him build a fort or a slide with the couch cushions….good for about an hour of entertainment!

Vacuum attatchments should be sold in big shiny boxes and given to kids at Christmas. Yes, they are just that fun to play with.

My kids have lost almost all of mine.

For entertainment I tell them to go look for them while I read magazines! :)

Well, you know I’ve got nothing. I always think I’ll do crafts or games or some crap with the wee ones and then realize that I’m just too lazy to do all the prep work. Hello, mother of the year! So we do end up watching more television than I’d like. Or Elliot plays with random stuff from around the house. We’ve had about a gazillion tea parties and played doctor for hours.

i was just thinking about writing a post about this: have you ever read the magazine Wondertime? It’s wonderful! ok. admittedly i don’t have a toddler to entertain, but when I’m home I constantly feel like i’m not being entertaining enough to my 5 month old.
this magazine rejuvenates me. I read it COVER to COVER. it has all kinds of wonderful games, crafts, etc. etc. and ideas to do with your kids. In the March issue, there is even an article i JUST read that was by a mom who talks about her lack of creative inspiring games and how her kids are just fine without them. of course, there’s a website. http://wondertime.go.com/

i’m definitely going to post about it now :)

I wasn’t going to post until someone else admitted they let their kid play with the toilet brush and plunger, which HAVE been used! LOL! Me, too. Call me gross. He doesn’t put it in his mouth or anything. He just goes around scrubbing other stuff in the bathroom with brush. (Does it count that it’s one of those anti-microbial ones?)

I let William play with dry pasta on the kitchen floor. I give him a big plastic bowl and smaller plastic bowls and spoons and measuring cups and then pour in some elbows or rigatoni. Keeps him occupied for at least half an hour! And as you well know, every minute counts. And I work full time!

Dude, this is my house on a regular basis. Sacha plays with my pots, mixing bowls, pretends to cook, and I just let it happen. That’s what vacuums are for!
