Come Join My Camp

Because nothing says “I’m gettin’ laid on Valentine’s Day” like body-odor scented burgers.

Blech.

***********

Speaking of Valentine’s Day and White Castle (which is wrong on SO.  MANY.  LEVELS), Tate and I had a little disagreement about this.   Tate is certain that EVERYONE knows that White Castle has this Valentine’s Day “celebration,”  you know, like it’s common knowledge.  It certainly isn’t part of my common knowledge, nor do I think that it is part of most people’s common knowledge.  My theory was that maybe since I (thankfully) didn’t grow up in a town with Whities , I hadn’t heard of it.

But I hated to concede to TATE.

Luckily, his sister, who not surprisingly grew up in the same city, didn’t know about this ridiculousness known as a date to White Castle for Valentine’s Day.  So HA!  Well, maybe not HA! since it blew my proximity to a White Castle theory out of the water.  But!!  It did add a person to my never heard of this very bad idea camp.

So far, Tate 1,  Jennifer 2.

Helpa girl out, wouldya?  You’re in my camp, RIGHT?

  1. Well, I do know about this oh so romantic dinner at White Castle now but not until a year ago when we got a chain here in my little slice of O-hell-o. So, you can decide if I’m on your side or Tate’s.

And the fact that you need to make reservations to eat SLYDERS is disturbing on so many levels!

  7. I have so NEVER heard of this. I disturbs me on more levels than I could ever express. I think that you win and Tate loses on this one….

  8. I hate to be the only one who sides with Tate, but I grew up in a city with White Castle and I remember seeing this sign EVERY YEAR for Valentine’s Day. I never knew anyone who did it, but I was very aware of the possibility. Aware and frightened…but aware none the less.

Valentine’s at White Castle. Is it as sad as us almost eating Thanksgiving dinner at IHOP? Or as sad as us ACTUALLY having Thanksgiving dinner at Rainforest Cafe in Galveston? I think White Castle wins.

  15. I’m with you on this one, girlie.

And Meijer is total awesomitude. They are building a new one around the corner from me and I am so psyched. Right now I have to drive 20 mins to get to one. Buh-BYE Wal-Mart.

  16. Ah, White Castle - soooo romantic! LOL. I first saw a sign like that last year and thought it was hilarious. Although, that White Castle was in front of a Home Depot, not Meijer.

And really? You love your Meijer? It must be new… :-) Does it have a starbucks inside? Ours is old and our only grocery option so it’s not so loved by me!

  17. I had never heard of it and when i saw that sign up there I was so confused. RESERVATIONS AT WHITE CASTLE? Cuh-razy. However, I totally think that you and Tate should do this. You can live blog V-day at the White Castle. DO IT FOR THE BLOG, MAN!

Also, when Cleatus and I were first married we lived in a town without an Arby’s (the HORROR) and we drove to the next town over for a fancy meal on V-day and ended up going to Arby’s because we were both in withdrawal. How romantic.

  28. Yuck. I’m sorry I can’t help with your debate but we don’t have White Castle in Texas. I did however stop to use the bathroom at a local McDonalds one Valentines Day evening and they had the lights dimmed and little valentines decorations on the table. Weird. I guess its ok for parents who get stuck getting chicken nuggets for the kids on Valentines Day but I don’t think it should be a date.

But they are SO.WRONG. Ugh. Steamed burgers…who the hell thought THAT was a good idea? BLECH. Only drunks and college frat guys (see the similarity in the two) actually LIKE White Castle. Have you EVER seen a chick in their commercials? Nope? Yeah. Tells ya something, doesn’t it?

Okay for those of you who don’t know what a white castle is…it’s a nasty fast food burger joint. They steam their burgers, they are small and square and gross. They smell like body odor. Also, Krystal’s is a southern version of White Castle.

  47. I love Meijer. I’m glad you’re enjoying it too. That’s where I do the majority of my shopping for groceries and such.

We don’t have a White Castle here. And no, I didn’t know about their “Valentine thing”. And why? Why would you go there for a Valentine’s date? I mean White Castle is OK for fast food, but don’t take your Valentine out for fast food.

  61. Krystal is slightly less gross than White Castle, for the record. Krystal doesn’t use nasty white and blue bathroom tile in the dining area.

It has to be the first time White Castle has done that. 85. I am de-lurking. I live in your new (lovely, ha!) city in Indiana and came across your blog on the moms forum. You have quite the following (and I like your header!).

First of all, welcome to Meijer country. I love shopping there for groceries. I think they have great produce and the best prices in town (especially when shopping their sales ads). I’ve also been really pleased with the Meijer brand, in general…if you’re into saving money in that way.

Eww…White Castle. My husband loves it–he “treats” himself and our 3-year old once in a while, but I don’t want anything to do with it. The special Valentines night there with table cloths, candle light, and reservations sounds dreadful. Doesn’t change the fact that their “burgers” taste like butt. I honestly have not had one since coming home from a concert very late one night in college and it was a regrettable experience.

Anyway, welcome! We have lived here for a 1 1/2 years and like it for the most part. I will say though that this is a VERY conservative town (or at least many of the moms that I have met here are) and that has been an adjustment for me.

  86. Ew. What a nasty tradition! I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of White’s Castle, but that would not ever be a tradition in my house! We’re going to try a new (fancy) restaurant!
