How Do Cable Companies Get Away With Telling Us They’ll Be There Between 8 and Never

Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:26 PM, my cable and Internet were installed.  Sure Comcast was supposed to arrive between 8 and 12, and they called at exactly 12 to say they were going to be late, but who’s keeping score?   Sure I got up at 6:30 to ensure I’d be showered and ready for their possible arrival at 8, sure this was the one day that my children decided to sleep in to almost 8, sure I could have actually slept in for the first time EVER.

I’m not bitter, though.  I have TV and unlimited Internet back.  That’s all that matters.

Life doesn’t get much better than a little Rock of Love 2 mixed in with some email and a dash of commenting.

    ok

    may I beg to differ?

not on the PAININTHEASSNESSMENT that is the cable company—-but are you *sure* it isnt Millionaire Matchmaker and the email? Or the ever horrifying Real Housewives?!

glad youre back hooked up regardless ;)

I’ve never understood that either, how they can say one time period (that’s four hours or so to begin with!) and then not be penalized at all for being late. *sigh*

    But…hooray for cable and internet!!!

Cable companies suck, but they are a necessary evil for ppl like me, who are addicted to internet and sometimes TV. :)

I wonder if they would appreciate it if we didn’t pay our bill on time but rather said, “you’ll get it between Tuesday and next Saturday.”

Heh, I like Devin’s suggestion of a vague payment date. It never fails that when I have to wait for DirecTV to show, they’re late. I also have to agree that I hope you are watching the NYC version of the Real Housewives.

I wonder if we ever will have competition from cable companies (other than just satellite). Can you imagine how much better our service and pricing would be? Life without competition is just bad.

On the other hand, I swear I we are the lone people in the country with a really good, really nice cable company. They are local and their service and response is unbelievable. However, I have a deep seeded fear that one of the big guys (Time Warner, Comcast) will eventually take them over and ruin our very good thing.

Unlimited internet and cable are pretty high on the list of things that make me happy.

At least you were up and showered – the last time I had the cable company scheduled to come between 8 and 12, I figured there was no way that they would be there right at 8. Especially since it was snowing and a Saturday morning. And the cable guy didn’t show up at 8.

He was there at 7:30…A.M. I’m quite sure that the sight of me half asleep and in my pajamas was JUST what he wanted to start his day with….

Sorry about not being able to sleep in, though. That sucks a million…I treasure my sleepy time…the girls are getting bettter and better at sleeping in…and I’m getting worse and worse about getting them ready in time for therapy. I really need to start going to bed earlier.

    Anyway…welcome (legally) back!!

If you HAD slept in, they would have shown up at 7:57, tapped ever-so-lightly on the door, then quickly left a “sorry we missed you” hanger on the handle and sped away.

After which it would be another 2 weeks before they had an available tech to come back and install the cable.

Aren’t you glad you’re a SAHM with NOTHING BETTER TO DO than wait around all day for the cable guy?

My satellite company decided to change my due date and not inform me in GIANT letters. It wasn’t until I called to complain that, uh, my TV don’t work. That they informed me that if I payed my bill on time it would ,that I found out they moved the due date up by a week. They suck. But they got their payment, because I am lazy and I must have TV to entertain me while I surf the net.

My fiancee calls if they are one minute late and they have to give us a $50 credit. I don’t know if this is true with all cable companies, but it works with Charter!

  21. Mary

    March 13, 2008 at 10:30 am

Comcast, Cox and Time Warner are evil. We had Cox for a while, and it took me nearly a week to get an appointment that someone actually showed up for. Luckily, that was when I worked for an awesome company that would allow me to take the day off to deal with things like that…. They didn’t care that the cable guy was several hours late. (9PM) I just got the day off. Now my boss is loud, obnoxious and often stinky. (The cash is minimal too.) He gets me up at 6:45 AM. Even after the time change. Oh well. At least I get kisses and hugs and don’t have to leave the house or get dressed to keep my job.

Comcast (Crapcast in our house) has come out 3 times this week and still no hookup. Number 4 is this Saturday. AAAHHH! I hate it! And when I call to talk to them they even have the nerve to wish me a Comcastic day?

Oh, gotta love Comcast and bowing to the whims and wishes of a monopoly. I had our phone (through Comcast) go out a few weeks back and they called before coming out – I explained the problem and they had an “ah-ha” and knew exactly what it was (something outside not inside). The next day the sitter let the tech in, he looked around and left five minutes later WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM. I called to call two more times and have him come back out. DUH! Oh…the joy. Glad you are up and keep up the great blog posts!

I was gonna say at least you had some down time in the morning – you know – checking blogs, watching tv, but duh, that’s what you were waiting for. Hopefully you went ahead and “borrowed” some internet connection while waiting for your own to be installed!
I stopped getting ready by 8am for those windows waiting for something and then one day they arrived at 8:20 – I was dressed (kind of), not showered, no make up and “they” were three very very very handsome Polish men. I have something about Polish men – the blue eyes…oh geez!
