Making the World a Better Place, One Cereal Post at a Time

Haiku Friday

Mushy cereal
Ick.  Ick.  Ick.  Must be crunchy.
I love Frosted Flakes.

It’s time for another controversial post, don’t you think.  It’s been awhile since we discussed toilet paper direction or coke and peanuts, so I felt like it was time to spice things up a bit around here…and make the world a slightly better place tackling a very important subject…

Cereal.

I cannot STAND mushy cereal.  Blech.  After many, many mornings of having allowed my cereal to become mush during an extended soaking in milk due to having to feed my children, I’ve finally learned to wait to pour milk on my cereal until they are both settled and eating.  This means they both have food in front of them, drinks in front of them, bibs secured, toys out of sight, refills of milk and apple juice within arm’s reach, and a shot of tequila just in case. (I’m totally kidding about the tequila.  Sheesh, everyone knows you start the morning off with mimosas or screwdrivers or little Bailey’s/Kahlua/Irish whiskey in your coffee.  DUH.)

So mushy cereal.  It disgusts me, I much prefer my cereal to be crunchy and therefore delicious.  I know there are some people out there who purposely let their cereal sit in milk and ALLOW it become MUSHY.  *shudders in horror*

What side of the fence are you on?  Mushy?  Or are you awesome like me and prefer crunchy cereal?  While we’re at it, tell me your ALL TIME favorite cereal, sugarbombs be damned!

Remember my comment policy…be nice.  I mean, it’s JUST cereal we’re discussing today.  It’s not like I’m asking you to discuss Obama/Hillary/McCain.

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:
1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). We will delete your link if it doesn’t go to a haiku. If you need help with this, contact Christina or myself. REMEMBER…ONLY sign Mr. Linky if you have a HAIKU POST.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.

Here’s my current favorite cereal creation: I go to the health food cereal section and purchase Peanut Butter Bumpers and Koala Crisp (which is chocolate flavored). I go home and pour an ungodly amount of both cereals in the bowl together, add milk, mix and enjoy.

It’s like eating Reese’s peanut butter cup. And it’s from the health food section, so it’s GOOD for you.

And btw, crunchy cereal all the way.

all things bd’s last blog post..What My Dresser Says About Me

I love the boring stuff…but fo sho it HAS to be crunchy….Special K and Kix!

Jen’s last blog post..Game On!

Wait. Really?

REALLY???

There are actually people out there who wait for it to get MUSHY before they eat it?

R-E-A To The L-L-Y!?!?

Damn.

I have a really, really hard time picking favorites.

But if you force me, I go unconventional and I shove my plain yogurt with granola mixed in right up in yo face.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..

Sarcastic Mom’s last blog post..Because I’m long-winded, even in Haiku. Geez.

omigod. no mushies!!! no no no no no!

and it has to be cocoa krispies if you want to rock my world.

corn pops are pretty tasty too.

the planet of janet’s last blog post..Haiku Friday: the ooh-she’s-a-smart(mouthed)-kid edition

Crunchy all the way! I actually would have a hard time eating it mushy.

I can’t think of a cereal that I don’t like, but picking a favorite is hard. Somewhere between Grape Nuts (yummy) and Peanut Butter Captain Crunch (yummy), but really, whatever is on sale because full price has gotten kind of stupid.

I like crunchy cereal, but I’ve always been a slow eater, even more so now with more sensitive teeth and the whole cold milk on cereal thing, so by the time I finish, my cereal is usually just starting to point in the mushy direction. Thankfully, I manage to finish before it actually gets too far or all the way there. It’s a fine line, that halfway point, but I walk it because I’m talented like that.

Maggie’s last blog post..Haiku (HaiPew) Friday 4/11/08

Crunchy! Kellog’s makes raisin bran that stays crunchy and tastes of cinnamon. Heart Smart something or other. Yum!

Shell’s last blog post..Is it Friday yet?

Im not good with carbs.

when I start that frosted flakes or CAPTAIN CRUNCH it’s all a downward spiral from there into a sugar coma.

My point? MUSHY CRUNCHY OUTTA MY TODDLERS BOWL OFF THE FLOOR—-Im cereal IN :)

it’s ugly

MizFit’s last blog post..Link Love and a Friday FREEBIE!

OK…so I like my cereal mushy, with fruit in it (any kind will do) What can I say….I live on the edge!

It’s got to be teh crunchy. If you want mush eat oatmeal.
I must pour some sugar on this post, cause to many of ya’ll are liking the healthy stuff..not that there’s anything wrong with that. I myself am a Lucky Charms(usually the knock off) kinda girl.

Jean’s last blog post..God Blessed Texas

Cocoa Krispies. Hands down.

AndreAnna’s last blog post..A sense

Yuck! Mushy cereal makes me gag. That is why I usually never buy any flake type cereal. It usually gets soggy faster. The best? Well Crunch Berries of course! Those suckers stay crunchy for hours! (hence the name..)

Irene’s last blog post..Playing with your kids

Must, must, must be crunchy. I can’t stand mush.

PS I goofed and linked to my general blog, here’s the link to my Haiku: http://4evermom.blogspot.com/2008/04/seventy-four-yeah-spring-is-here-its.html

Like, if we wanted mushy cereal we’d make a bowl of oatmeal, eh? LOL

Secret Agent Mama’s last blog post..Haiku Friday: Long Awaited

I’m with you on this
topic … soggy cereal’s not
worth the calories!

My fav’rite of all
time is ‘Newman’s Own’ … but my
Costco hasn’t had

it available
for a couple of months … so
I have ’settled’ for

Great Grains and sometimes
Honey Bunches of Oats from
Post … but grudgingly.

Hugs and blessings,

Crunchy cereal–of course! Crunchy Golden Grahams are the best, but I rarely buy them as whenever I do, I end up eating the entire box in two days. No self control.

mep’s last blog post..That’s what she said.

I despise mushy cereal- so much so that I have been known to start with a bowl of milk and pour my cereal in little by little and eat it while it is still super crunchy. But this is only when my OCD has really kicked in and they let me out of my straight jacket for breakfast!! ;)

A few of my all time favorite childhood cereals are Golden Grahams, Cookie Crisp and Frosted Flakes but these days I usually stick to Fiber One Honey Clusters or Kashi Go Lean (super crunchy- mmm!)

Great Ku! I hate mushy cereal too.

Alisha’s last blog post..Haiku Friday-Spring Storms

Oh, crunchy, absolutely! As for type, I go through phases. Raisin Bran Crunch is good, and I also like Trader Joe’s Maple Brown Sugar Mini Wheats. Oh, now I’m hungry!

ccr in MA’s last blog post..Improving weather, garden thoughts

I literally shudder when the kid intentionally lets her cereal go mushy. Who the hell eats mushy Cinnamon Toast Crunch? My kid, that’s who. I guess just so long as she doesn’t go ruining my Lucky Charms, we can still be friends.

Burgh Baby’s Mom’s last blog post..One of Those Dyson Posts

I don’t really care either way. I prefer it crunchy, but if it’s become mushy, I’ll certainly eat it. I’m not cereal prejudiced, like some people.

My favorite? Vanilla Frosted Mini Wheats…yum.

AMomTwoBoys’s last blog post..Friday recipe - 4/11/08

hmmm…i hate to be a lone voice but i am a fan of the mushy cereal. this morning i poured milk into my granola and let it sit while i ate my toast. guess it takes all kinds:-)

phyllis’s last blog post..The Yucky Stuff

Mushy cereal? Blech! Crunchy, or down the disposal it goes!

Becki’s last blog post..Haiku Friday

I am a wierdo. I like it mushy. I don’t usually let it get that way on purpose unless it’s something esp crunchy like granola. Right now I am on a Honey Nut Cheerios kick, but my official fave is Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I also love Cocoa Krispies (cuz they make the milk all chocolate-y) and Captain Crunch- but no Crunchberries please. I do not enjoy any fruit-type object near my cereal bowl. I can’t buy the kiddie ones that I really love because I have no self control.

Katie’s last blog post..There are no words….

I’m all about the crunchy. I put just enough milk on the bowl to make it wet and that’s it. And I can’t pick a favorite - that’s like telling me to pick a favorite kid. ;)
andi’s last blog post..Jack of all trades

I am a frosted mini wheat kind of girl. It is great when it is crunchy. But if I end up helping the kids with something, it gets soggy quickly. Then I just can’t eat it!

tommie’s last blog post..a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Ugh…I DESPISE soggy cereal! I won’t eat it! In fact I rarely eat cereal for a multitude of reasons…but one of them is the fact that you simply can’t eat a bowl of cereal before some of it gets mushy!!

But when I do eat it I like Life Cereal…and then Special K or Rice Crispies (with generous spoonfuls of sugar sprinkled over).

Week #2 of Haiku Frida! I’m really moving along :D
Sadie’s last blog post..Hai-Ku’d you take these DVD’s?

Depends on the cereal. I can totally let my Cap’n Crunch get mushy!

Devilish Southern Belle’s last blog post..I just can’t do it on my own.

CRUNCHY. Yes - that required all caps. I get mine post-feeding the wolves. Pour the milk at the last minute possible and eat it as fast as I can.

Teri’s last blog post..Let’s Hear it for T.!

I abhor mushy cereal. It either has to be crunchy, or it has to be intentionally mushy, like oatmeal.

Scylla’s last blog post..Haiku Friday…

I don’t even like it to get mushy in a bowl that I have to wash. It grosses me out to even look at it.

I like Frosted Mini Wheats, which become extremely vile when you let them get mushy.

melissa’s last blog post..Friday Haiku 4/11/08

I am all about crunchy.
Can’t stand mushy.
I had to learn to wait on the milk too.

My favorite is sugar cereal: Cap n Crunch brand or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Yum.

Favorite semi healthy cereal: Life

Dana’s last blog post..Not yet

I seriously almost threw up thinking about purposefully soggy cereal. eww.

And - I love clusters. Someone tell Honey Bunches of Oats to double the amount of clusters!

I don’t do ANY mushy foods!

Crunchy all the way!

CourtneyRyan’s last blog post..Friday Fill In & More!

Has to be crunchy!!! I can’t pick a favorite, but if your gonna be pushy….Capt. Crunch with Crunchberries or Fruity Peebles. Berries, Fruity….healthy right?

justmylife’s last blog post..A diagnoses?

Mushy all the way!

My fave cereal is Quaker Oar Squares. They are the best! I eat them right out of the box as a snack…half the time they don’t make it to a bowl.

photomommy’s last blog post..Haiku Friday: Farewell Spring Break

CRUNCHY. In fact, what I do is I pour a bowl of milk. Then I sprinkle in a bite or two’s worth of cereal. Then I eat the cereal. Then I sprinkle in a little more.

Swistle’s last blog post..Shopping: Little Girl Clothes

I would love to say that I am a Cheerios or Kashi girl. Make you all think I’m a super svelte health-hut. But really? I do love me some Lucky Charms. There I said it. And I have been known to sneak just the marshmallows from the box from time to time. And no, my kids have never had them. I keep them for myself. How cool am I?

And I’m a big believer that the milk doesn’t touch the cereal until the absolute last second, when you are sitting down and you already have your spoon in hand. Mush is gross.

Mama DB’s last blog post..On Watch: A Haiku

If cereal was meant to be mushy, wouldn’t it come in a can? Mushy cereal=blehhh. No favorite. Pretty much like anything cereal related.

Kashi Crunch does not get soggy, At least not in a reasonable time frame. I buy it just for that reason, cause no matter how prepare I couldn’t seem to eat get to my bowl before it turns to mush. I think they should make a commerical for Kashi based on that. “Kashi Crunch never mushy. Great for moms everywhere”

Cassey’s last blog post..Enough Potty Talk

this post was meant for me - i heart cereal!! its the perfect breakfast, snack, lunch, dinner or dessert!
i’m currently hooked on special k chocolate - a CHOCOLATE cereal from SPECIAL K! (it must be good for me, right?)
i like crunchy, too, but i do enjoy my grapenuts mushy. i nuke em for a minute for a warm oatmeal-like breakfast since it’s always so freakin COLD in ny!

supergirl!’s last blog post..“courtney’s supa-fab 30 - 2 birthday extravaganza” wrap-up: ‘bama, boys and booze!

You would have gagged at my breakfast this morning. I poured milk on the dregs in the bottom of the shredded wheat box and by the time I sat down to eat it looked like cold oatmeal. I ate it anyway.

heather’s last blog post..sunshine and tulips

this post was totally up my ally. i heart cereal! for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, dessert, whatev. it’s like, a perfect food. right now my fave is special k chocolate (a SPECIAL K with CHOCOLATE - it MUST be good for me, right?!). mmm, chocolate AND cereal. heaven.

I’ve given up on cereal altogether since regardless of when I pour it, Emma always inevitably interupts me, causing mushy cereal, which is disgusting.

Jen’s last blog post..Haiku Friday: April 11 Edition

Dang, it’s not even 10:30am here yet and already 60 participants! Yowsa! HF has blown UP!

I prefer crunchy cereal, fo sho.

Right now I am addicted to Peace Cereals — either the Vanilla Almond or Maple Pecan flavors. Flakes + nuts + granola = yum yum.
(You can even get the Maple Pecan flavor on Amazon, you don’t have to have crunchy grocery stores like I do to get em!)

VDog’s last blog post..Two Weeks

I’m on the side of the crunchy cereal. There is no place for mushy cereal, it should be outlawed. I’m also on the side of mimosa’s :)
Tonya’s last blog post..TOBY’S IN TOWN

If I eat cereal, I prefer my corn flakes crunchy.

Queen of Shake Shake’s last blog post..Give Me That PTA Religion

I’m really not a cereal eater…but on the rare occassion that I have some it can NOT be mushy. Gag me.

Maggie’s last blog post..Theme Thursday - Perfection

I don’t like mushy, soggy anything. I’m a freak that way. I stopped getting oil and vinegar on my Subway subs because it makes the bread soggy and lawd help me soggy bread gives me the heebeegeebees.

Sadly I have passed my neurosis on to my son. He now tells me everything is soggy. Including his gravy and mash potatos…WTH ?

Worker Mommy’s last blog post..Why am I a crazy people magnet ?

The milk has to be ice cold. And the cereal has to be crunchy.

Frosted Flakes is my favorite. I also LURVE Reese Puffs without milk. Great snack!

MUSH=YUCK. You don’t have to gag me with a spoon, because the mushy cereal took care of it.

Mary’s last blog post..Dear Momma Mary,

Mushy = bad.

I like raisin bran but it gets way too mushy way too fast. This is why I’ve developed a love of Raisin Bran Crunch. Same goes for rice krispies. Rice Krispies Treats cereal stays crispy a lot longer than the regular variety. ;)

100% cruchy, my husband gets pissed when I won’t eat it if it gets soggy and I refuse to eat it!

Rachel’s last blog post..My true friends

Mushy cereal is totally unacceptable. My faves for when I’m feeling healthy: Frosted Mini-wheats, Honey Bunches of Oats, and Healthy Start. My faves for when I want to channel my inner 4th grader: Cocoa Puffs, Apple Jacks, and Cap’n Crunch.

MollyDoll’s last blog post..Haiku Friday: What’s on the Menu

My husband prefers mushy cereal. Makes me wonder how we ever got together, since I think that is gross-tastic. Must be crunchy!

Favorite cereal ever? I’m ashamed to say - Fruit loops. How bad is that?

Julia’s last blog post..The Plague is plaguing me

Crunchy Crunchy Crunchy!!

I love me some Rice Krispies!

Erin’s last blog post..House Full O’ Grumps

Crunchy and sugary - which is why I like Grape Nuts so much. It NEVER gets soggy and it totally needs a few teaspoons of sugar.

Rosie’s last blog post..Haiku Friday

My cereal has to be crunchy unless it’s frosted mini wheats. Then it has to be SLIGHTLY soaked in milk but it’s disgusting if soggy…

Crunchy, all the way. I have been known to pour out and start over if the kids overtake the allotted crunchy time. I love cereal. Frosted flakes, golden grahams, lucky charms, crunch berries all super yummy. Also like oatmeal raisin crunch - yum!!!

pgoodness’s last blog post..are you sirius?

I (gasp!) don’t really like cereal. I will eat crunchy Rice Krispies if I have to, but otherwise cereal doesn’t appeal to me.

I am weird.

Jerseygirl89’s last blog post..Top Ten Things I Hate Today

Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! is so Crunchy it could break your teeth. You could let it set for 10-15 mins and it would still be crunchy, it’s delish with http://www.justtomatoes.com/OJRB-P.html Just Raspberries

I cant eat mushy cereal, it disgusts me. As for type of cereal. Im simple and like Cheerios.

Stephanie’s last blog post..Schooling

crunchy all the way! I LOVE cereal…could eat it for every meal but I do try and pace myself.

Hmmm…right now here’s what’s in my rotation:
*Strawberry Frosted Mini-Wheats–so yummy and I feel that they’re nice and healthy…it’s mini-wheats!
*Cinnamon Life
*Fruit Loops or Apple Jacks

What I need is one of those cereal bars like Rory Gilmore had at college on Gilmore Girls….that was the coolest!

Carrie Funk’s last blog post..Question of the day

I’m with you, it’s either crunchy or I’d rather not eat at all. If I want mushy cereal I’ll eat oatmeal, that’s not what I’m looking for in my Frosted Flakes.

Shelly’s last blog post..Peanut

I’m not terribly picky; of course I like it to start out crunchy but I don’t freak out if it turns mushy.
And I do wait for my Grape-Nuts to turn soft, I don’t wanna break a tooth!

cyndy’s last blog post..From the Mind of Spiderman

CRUNCHY! Unfortunately, I don’t always get my way anymore, what with feeding the little Dude. Somehow, kids tend to get priority over me getting my crunchy cereal.

Mrs. Mustard’s last blog post..My 19 month old can read!

Mushy cereal gives me the heebie jeebies. It’s got to be crunchy! My all time fave are Frosted Flakes, but my baby is lactose intolerant. :( I haven’t had a glass of milk in at least 8 months, or cheesecake, or any cake. Mmmmm, omelet, and anything with a cream sauce! OK, got to raid the fridge.

I cannot eat mushy cereal at all. Not even slightly mushy. I think that is why the only cereal I like to eat is Grape Nuts. I don’t think its even possible to get Grape Nuts mushy.

Vixen’s last blog post..Whoopsie

Crunchy all the way. I only put a bit of milk in, just to make sure it doesn’t get mushy.
