Wonder Dorks

Every night before the kids’ bedtime, the whole family relaxes on the couch and watches one episode of Thomas, Max and Ruby, or Wonder Pets.  I’m not sure who likes the cartoons more, Carson or Tate and me.

Here’s a snippet of a recent conversation between Wonder Dork #1 and Wonder Dork #2:

Tate:  “Can we watch both Wonder Pets episodes?  I haven’t seen the one where the they save the kangaroo.”

Me:  “Oooh!  It’s a really good one!  It’s kind of a tear-jerker, though.  It all works out in the end, luckily.  They have celery on the barbie when they find the kangaroo’s mommy.”

We looked at each other and realized to our horror that any semblence of cool that we liked to pretend still existed had at that moment gone up in poof of smoke.

Since we had already lost our membership in the cool club, Tate and I belted out all the lyrics to the Wonder Pets songs.

(Just shut up. okay?!)  (Don’t pretend that you don’t tear up at Wonder Pets occasionally and sing along, too.)  (And I’m sorry if I gave away the ending to the kangaroo episode.  I probably should have given a spoiler alert.)

I would love to watch this show, but the duck’s lisp makes me want to beat someone. Who makes a show for kids and gives one of the main characters a lisp?

Whew, feel a little to strongly about that apparently. I’ll have to give it another try if what Marilyn commented is true.

My girls are a little older than your kids, so we’re into shows like Word Girl, which I secretly love for them to watch. It’s actually really funny, which also makes me a dork.

Wonderpets. Check. We’re always looking for a good video to become addicted to. We’ve gone through Pooh, Elmo (kill me now), Old School Sesame Street, and now we’re on Curious George. Good times. And yeah, we said goodbye to cool a LONG time ago.

We have the same routine with Jeopardy and then Dora/Diego.

And my husband looks at me and says, ‘Is it wrong that I’m learning all the spanish I know from a kids cartoon?”

I also wake up some mornings with the Johnny and the Sprites song stuck in my head. It’s like mad cow disease.

Its ok that you and Tate aren’t cool. I was informed by my lil cousin that I’m not cool either because I still wanted to watch Dora and aparently that’s just not “in” anymore. Sigh.

This is the first show my son fell in love with. He didn’t even care about TV until a few months ago when I came across the Wonder Pets. My husband doesn’t watch it (he has now that I got Zachariah the DVD for his birthday), so he laughs at me when I sing the song or reference something from a show. (That cracks me up when they try something different with their celery.)

When my son eats celery, he says “Wonder Pets” over and over the whole time. I always have to say “Yes, just like the Wonder Pets eat” before he’ll stop. And if I sing “What’s gonna work?” he’ll reply (in a pretty good singing voice for his age) “TEEEEAM WORK!”. It’s the cutest thing.

See? You’re not the only one. Can we start a recovery program?

Oh we love the Wonderpets. Ming Ming has a lisp because the little girl who plays her had a lisp when she auditioned for the role and when the show went in production they asked her to keep speaking that way even though she’d grown out of her lisp.

Hmm… perhaps I know too much about this particular subject.

izzy loves the wonderpets and at 2 she can sing the whole song. it’s a cute cartoon and yes, the kangaroo one is kinda sad. izzy also loves max and ruby. it’s okay, not one i like to watch, but hubby hates that cartoon. has even threaten to write a letter to the producer…now that’s some serious contemplations are cartoons!!

izzy’s most favorite cartoon is wow wow wubbzy. not many people ever know what i am talking about, but it’s cute. she asks for it all day. of course its one of those cartoons that has nothing out for vhs/dvd and that leaves us waiting all day for it to come on.

We secretly watch the Wonder Pets at our house, too. I even argues with them over the episode where the calf gets caught in a tornado and gets stuck in a tree. I scoffed and said, “If there really was a tornado, then that tree wouldn’t still be there.” Because the tree was the implausible part, not the talking, driving, singing baby animals.

So, I’m a dork, too. Do we get a special hat for this club?

The WonderPets lyrics are completely addictive! I’m also a big fan of Max & Ruby, mostly because my 3yr old looooves it and the music is soothing to me. The super annoying part that ruins it is that he wanders around hollaring a single word like “Mine!” or “Candy!” for hours on end. Plus he calls my youngest son “Max” constantly … in Ruby’s voice.

I guess we are super dorks because we are still watching Barney at our house. My husband and I had an involved conversation about who is inside the dinosaur costumes. We’re assuming Barney is an adult, but what about Baby Boy, Riff, and BJ . . . tall children, small adults . . . we’re not sure. This conversation carried over into a discussion of Teletubbies in which my husband said, “Well with the tubbies, everything is just done to scale so they could be any size . . . ”

I think becoming Wonder Dorks would actually make us less dorky!
