Surviving a Ghost Attack and TWO Earthquakes

Have you ever seen that movie, The Entity?  That is one scary movie right there, one that I should never, ever have watched years ago.  Having a vivid imagination and being one who might occasionally overreact, I was certain that the rumbling I felt in my bed at 5:40 AM last Friday was definitely an evil ghost who’d come to get me.

Luckily for me it was JUST an earthquake

First I heard a very odd noise coming from the baby monitor, a noise that certainly wasn’t my children, but an eerie low frequency NON-HUMAN sounding something.  Obviously when I put all the facts together moments after the rumbling that fully awakened me, I positively KNEW that I was living with a ghost (or ghosts plural.)

I immediately turned on every light, running frantically away from my bedroom and the ghost or ghosts plural.  Finding my cell phone, I fumbled to find Tate’s number and call him.  He’s a man!  He could help beat the ghosts!  Or something.

When I finally got ahold of Tate seconds later, I explained the situation and my fear of our unwelcome guests ghost(s).

“There was this rumbling that started at the bottom of the bed!  And!  I could hear it over the baby monitor!  And!!!  I could feel an energy in the room.  We have an infestation of ghosts!  I know we do, I just know it.  I’m not crazy, Tate.”

After repeating the above sentences about ten times to REALLY!  GET!  MY!  POINT!  ACROSS!, Tate asked if I had considered that it might be an earthquake.

I, obviously, thought that the possibility of an earthquake was downright WACKO.  A ghost or ghosts plural was a much more viable possibility.

But apparently, as it turns out, it was indeed an earthquake–an earthquake I BARELY survived.

I also narrowly escaped death once before when I was woken up by an earthquake in Knoxville.  Now I can say I’ve survived TWO earthquakes and that makes me, like, really cool.

Of course the idea of ghost(s) was more probable than an earthquake. You live in the midwest now.

Congrats on surviving two earthquakes; should we expect a TV movie soon? (:

We had 2 earthquakes here in Iowa last Friday, and everyone was talking about at work. I was like, “Um, what?”

One I slept through, and one I actually worked through.

earthquakes totally freak me out. I check glasses of water to see if there is actual shaking (or if I only passed gas or something) for a couple of days after one happens.

And the baby monitors? That movie “Signs” ruined baby monitors FOREVER for me. Can’t use the things.

Even after “officials” have declared it an earthquake, I’m still going with ghosts. Indiana doesn’t get earthquakes, I just don’t care what anyone says.

I’ll never forget the first earthquake I was in when I lived in Seattle. I freaked out and braced myself in the doorway, waiting anxiously for my apartment to come tumbling down around me. My ex, a native, kept watching TV and laughing at me. “It’s not a big one,” he said with assurance. And it wasn’t . . .by HIS standards.

But as an east coaster, I thought I would have a nervous breakdown. I think you handled yourself really well.

I live a few states away, and even I woke up with the (minimal) shaking. And I thought I must have been losing my mind. Because really? An earthquake in KS? I know that the largest fault line in the country runs through the midwest, but it is INACTIVE.

Does the earth not realize that sleep is a precious commodity that should NEVER be interrupted?!

And of course you thought it was ghosts first – why would you think there was an earthquake in the midwest?

My sister in law said the same exact thing!!! She called me later that morning, and told me that the first thing running through her mind was that it was her dog running around, and her next thought was that it was surely a ghost, since the dog wouldn’t make so much commotion. ha ha! She said she even swore the room got colder! Too funny!

After living in California for 36 years, I’ve gotten to the point of guessing the quake’s magnitude pretty closely. One time we waited until a fairly good sized quake stopped shaking, listened to the planes still taking off at LAX, and went right back to sleep.
