The Bachelorette: Spoiler Alert.
Did any of you watch this? BE HONEST. YOU DID!
I did not watch the whole season, but I did get sucked into the final episode. Since I (smartly) chose not to watch that crap show, I’m not privy to all the details leading up to her decision. I gotta say, I think she picked the wrong dude. The guy she chose? Creepy with a CAPITAL C. The other one was a hottie and seemed so sweet, although I could have done without all the facial grimacing/expressions/sighing he did on the follow-up show.
Final thought…the happy couple did seem to be dripping in high fructose corn syrup laced honey. It was sweet but sorta gross.
Shear Genius
Where in THE HELL do they find people stupid enough to let these wacky stylists cut and color their hair to say, oh I don’t know….to look like a FREAKING CARTOON CHARACTER?!? There’s not a chance that I’d let any of those yahoos screw up my hair. Not even for a free camera.
For the record, I don’t plan on actually watching this show again, but it was on and I got sucked in. I won’t let it happen again. Probably.
Rock the Reception
The premise of the show is this: Couples getting married learn a choreographed dance for their reception and surprise their guests when they start getting jiggy wit it. This show hasn’t aired yet, but just the idea of this show makes me want to get married all over again and have a kick-ass first dance with Tate. Our first dance consisted of us “dancing” by swaying back and forth and in circles. It was so…whateveryoneelsedoesfortheirfirstweddingdance. Our first song was even Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight (live version OF COURSE). I wouldn’t be shocked at all if 50% of you danced to that also for your wedding.
I’m just thinking outloud here, but I wonder if Tate and I divorced and got remarried if we could 1) have another big shebang wedding and reception that my parents would pay for 2) register for new gifts, especially dishes, without seeming too greedy 3) if we could do a kickin’ rendition of the dance from Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?
This show debuts on TLC July 15.

One of BooMama’s friends did that dance show-she was even at the wedding!

D and I got married alone @ a Justice of the Peace/Courthouse deal. Our families had a reception for us the following month and we rocked, ”Islands in the Stream” kareoke style together. I would get married again every single week to just keep doing that, hee.

LOVED The Bachelorette. Poor Jason. BUT his chin grab thing when he went to kiss her?? SOOOO WEIRD!!
Rock the Reception I might watch. We took a “Wedding Dance Survival” class and it KICKED ASS. We did dips and stuff, it was teh awesome.
I won’t reveal the song, though, b/c it is a bit embarrassing. NOT Clapton, though — that was the Warrior’s Prom Song!! LOL

Hubby and I took dance lessons for 8 weeks before our wedding. We took 4 weeks of group lessons of both ballroom and swing, and 4 weeks of private lessons where we choreographed our first dance (Fallen, by Lauren Wood – you know the song from Pretty Woman… the red dress scene). It was WELL worth the money!

LOVED Girls Just Want To Have Fun back in the day. Can Tate do the lift????

I totally think you are onto something here…I would like to get divorced and remarried to my hubby so I don’t have to remember the hideous 90′s dress I wore, with puffy shoulders, sequins, stuff…I’m sure you get the picture. I looked like a wedding cake. Not one of those attractive wedding cakes that couples get now, but a 90′s wedding cake.

I didn’t watch any of those shows. I want to watch the one where they give babies to teenagers that want to have their own kids! hahahaha! That’ll teach em!
Hubby and I did 2 private dance lessons before our wedding. He still can’t dance. But we faked it really well!

You all took dance lessons?? HUH!? Really!!
Okay, I guess we were total losers.
She did pick the wrong guy. They always pick the wrong one…why do I watch this show!!!
We got married in our backyard. It would take years of dance lessons to teach my DH to dance.
I can’t tell you how much I HATE reality TV. It’s what I like to think of as ‘the easy way out’ for producers. Eventually, taking the easy way out will come back and bite you in the ass – unfortunately, with TV, it bites US in the ass.

We didn’t take dance lessons. Our first dance was to “America” by Simon and Garfunkel. We just swayed together, but sang to each other the whole time. I want to get married again (same man) and register for new dishes too – and other stuff – I can’t stand some of the stuff I picked out the first time. I had no idea what I was doing!

I so want to get divorced and have another wedding that is actually fun instead of stuffy. And I would totally get jiggy with it in a rehearsed way.
I hate reality shows and never watch them (Not even the Bachelorette. I’m a cultural loser, I know) but I gonna watch Rock the Reception!

I really liked the first season of Shear Genius, but this season … I keep turning to husband and asking, “WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME WATCH THIS SHOW” when, in reality, it was me who turned it on.
I’m giving it only one more week. I SWEAR.

@moo: Not that you pointed it out, but I just realized I spelled Shear Genius wrong…sheer/shear…oops! Thanks for writing it correctly…going to edit now!
I must admit that I was uber pissed off that Deanna picked Jesse instead of Jason. She is just so dumb. But whatever!

@McCathy: I know!! The dishes we picked??? I despise them. I could really use some new small appliances, like a large Cusinart food processer, toaster oven, bread machine…
We had no clue what we were doing when we picked out colors, either. At the time I was really into cobalt blue. *shakes head*
check out this surprise wedding dance http://youtube.com/watch?v=C65uDia4Jy8
FUNNY!!!
Not at my wedding, but that was my school’s prom theme when I was a junior. And yes, we did the horribly unimaginative “sway” dance since I have two left feet.
FWIW: I freakin’ LOVED “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”. It was the most perfect 80′s dance movie EVER.

@Kristin: This confirms it. I’m getting divorced. I MUST HAVE A COOL FIRST DANCE!!!
That is one of my favorite videos!
How weird is this!??! I watched Shear Genius for the first time last night. I could not believe some of the stuff that the stylists did!!
The red carpet hair was TERRIBLE! I was just shocked by all of it!!
Baby Borrowers! Just sayin’.
Also, pretty sure that Jason dude will be the new Bachelor. And i am totally watching it.

We have not danced together since.

I
patheticallywatched almost every episode of The Bachelor last season and was sorely disappointed. So I promised myself I wouldn’t get sucked into The Bachlorette this time around. Seems they always hype it up and act like the good guy’s gonna get her, and then let us all down at the end. It never ends well…And I’m a big fan of Napoleon and Tabitha’s (the choreographers for Rock the Reception) and it looks like a fun show, so I’ll probably try to watch.

heh. I watched the last 3 or 4 episodes of the Bachelorette and it was a mess. I couldn’t believe she picked him, but they did seem happy. Whatev.

I watched the entire Bachelorette (b/c I have a fabulous social life) and was so bummed when she picked the one she did (after watching the entire show, I still can’t get all the “J” names straight). The guy she jilted had a little boy (3yo) who was too cute and cried when his dad left. Ugh.

You should watch Baby Borrowers. It is a trup to see these teens TRY to be parents. Funny. They have NO clue!
bachelor…it took two to be creepy. I couldn’t hardly watch the creep factor was so high!
The only one of those I watched was the last three episodes of The Bachelorette. I have to agree with you 100%!!! Why, WHY??!! would she choose the guy who is a “pro snowboarder”, who, by the way, she told he’d have to get a real job, from what I understand, over the cutie patootie other guy who’s got his shit together???? Me no comprendez.
I told ya toots: you gotta redo the vows in the church for your 10th. Then you’ll get to do the new dance, the new gifts, and the bigger diamond upgrade for your ring.

I can’t stand The Bachelor but I have watched both Bachelorettes.
The guy I like left two shows before the end so I wasn’t that ‘into it’ by that time. But Jesse, the guy she picked, did grow on me!! I don’t think she necessarily picked the wrong guy…
I used to watch that movie (GJWHF) over and over and over and over. What ever happened to the guy in that?!?!?!

I also want to know what happened to “Jake Ryan” from 16 candles!
I *only* watched the finale and I thought Jason came across as clingy and possessive and creepy…hmmm now I wonder what I missed.
Totally with you on Shear Genius. No Way in HELL!
I can’t even remember what we danced to, but I *think* “the way you look tonight” was what it was…I want to watch that show too. Looks super cute!

Im really just amazed at these peope who took lessons before the wedding.
Shoot I thought we were doing good to actually have music.
Hubs and I bacically looked like two preteens at their first dance. Slow swaying.. going around around in circles…pretending like we liked each other. I’m pretty sure the only song I remember being played was It’s Your Love by Faith and Tim.

I totally got sucked into the final Bachelorette episode as well. And I agree that Jesse is O.T.A. Out.There.Alone. He & Deanna needed to get a room on that aftershow. I haven’t seen the other 2 shows you mentioned, but you should check out Flipping Out with everyone’s favorite wacko, Jeff Lewis. He’s hilarious!

I never watched The Bachelorette . . .I’d rather dispense with all class and intelligence and watch things like Rock of Love. Ahem.
Shear Genius I watch, just until I can get my real fixes of Top Chef and/or Project Runway.
If you get remarried and do the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun dance, can I come? I’ll buy you a cool gift.
Jerseygirl89s last blog post..No, Ms. Martinez is NOT Available
I am a diehard Bachelor junkie, I admit it. She picked the wrong dude fo sho. Jason is a doll. Snowboarder is young…
My husband and I failed out of dance class. We did a little sway, sway, twirl to “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. We never use our dusty breadmaker or ice cream maker we registered for. I would love new dishes too~!
Another one who took dance lessons! We took two private lessons and did a pretty rocking swing number to Frank Sinatra “Love is Here to Stay.” We remember a few of our moves and still bust them out occassionally. I have no style and my hubby has no rhythm so it took a fair amount of effort!
We absolutely did NOT dance to Wonderful Tonight. But it is a rocking song.
I wanted to be different. We picked a Rod Stewart song. See, so original.
Actually it was “For the First Time.” THAT is a LONG ASS SONG. Over 4 minutes. What was I thinking?
And I didn’t want to sway, so I convinced DHtobe that we should take a session of dance classes. We got a choreographed routine. Although there was a little misunderstanding at first with the instructor. At first she thought we should start across the room from each other. But I laid down the law and explained my intentions. In other words, please do not make us look like ice-skater wannabes, just whip something up for us that we can do and everyone will be tricked into thinking we can actually dance and have a natural grace and presence. That worked just fine and we were smart enough not to mess it up with too much “freestyle” dancing later.
Could we do that routine today, 8 years later – not on your life! But it was $ well spent to feel so graceful on That One Day. And I always have the video (yes pre DVD days).

Yeah, choreographed dances are a big wedding trend. If you check out YouTube there are some pretty good ones and some so-so ones. We looked into lessons for ours, but they were too much moola, so yes hold and sway for us.
And you don’t need to get divorced…just do what my guy and are doing…vow renewal *cough* party *ahem* every ten years. Totally fun without all the pressure of the first wedding (and lets face it, family likes to pile it on).
