Finally we went
to Target…or should I say
Tar-zhay? Ooh la la.
Goal: Bathroom cleaner.
Score! But of course, it happened.
I couldn’t resist.
Cute kids’ clothes! On sale!
Then a fantastic, cheap purse!
All for fifty bucks.
I told myself going into Target that we weren’t buying ANYTHING except bathroom cleaner. I steered clear of the Dollar Spot because I knew I’d walk out of there with 25 unnecessary trinkets, yet telling myself, “they’re ONLY a $1, well okay, $2.50.”
I was proud and confident in my only-buying-bathroom-cleaner abilities as I didn’t even make eye contact with the Dollar Spot.
“But really, would it hurt to just look at the clothes?” I reasoned in my head. “No. No it wouldn’t. I’ll just look.”
And really, it didn’t HURT so much as slightly bruised. $50? Not so bad for bathroom cleaner,

two shirts for Ella to wear next summer,

a pretty ugly Thomas shirt for Carson, but who cares! It was CHEAP.
And a new purse for ME! $22, yo. It would’ve have been a crime to leave it behind. Poor wittle purse.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.

oooo I LOVE the new purse!!! Makes me want to go to Target tomorrow and look for a new purse.
Oh the kids’ clothes on clearance gets me every time too. I bought Hunter a dinosaur shirt that I knew wasn’t going to fit after 1 wash, but it was only 98 cents! How could i pass that up?!

I think that, given the wealth of items actually available at Target, that $50 for shower cleaner isn’t too bad. And you did get all that OTHER stuff free!
Besides, just think of how clean your shower will be with a cleaner like that!

I have a serious question. My 17 month old is starting to show interest in trains, so I think it’s a given that Thomas and his buddies will soon be in our home. Does Tom always look so demonic? Eyebrows up. Eyes slightly down cast. Smiling away. What is he looking at?

Ah … this is why I’ve given up ‘browsing’ stores and why I try to wear ‘blinders’ when I have to pick something up quickly. It’s so easy to find ‘good buys’ …(seems as though you found a few)… but I’m making a concerted effort to simplify and declutter. Some days are easier than others ;–)

Love the purse! I specifically didn’t look at purses yesterday in our Target for this very reason. By the time we got to the bathroom cleaner I had such a headache I let the girls convince me to get the new scrubbing bubbles thing. I have been trying to go all non-toxic here, but when the girls volunteer to clean something like our all tile shower somehow the chemicals that they want to use cloud my brain and I buy away. Does the method work well?
BTW, I would take your $50 over my $106 I spent there yesterday. (altho we did come out of there with 6 shirts total for the girls and I, some makeup, cleaning products and some other stuff I can’t quite remember right now! that’s sad!)

In the land of retail, these people are doing something right. I should be buying stock….Wait - I spent all my money THERE, how can I buy the stock?

I love Target, but if you wanted to avoid it just for bathroom cleaner and save some money, you can use baking soda and liquid castile soap to make a soft scrub to clean. Just put some baking soda in a small tub (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup - depending on the size of your bathroom), and add liquid castile soap until you get a soft scrub in the consistency you want. (If you don’t have liquid castile soap, you can substitute Ivory dish soap.) If you only make up what you need, this is a great recipe. If you want to keep it (you make more than you need), you need to add a little bit of vegetable liquid glycerin. Use in your toilet, and your tub/tile. Just apply like a regular soft scrub, a little elbow grease, and rinse. If you want eucalyptus scent, add some eucalyptus essential oil.
