Carson knows our standing rule that he’s not allowed to wake me up until the clock in his room says 7:00.
At precisely 7:01, I was awakened to him staring at me from the side of my bed.
“Mommy, I getting hungry. I want Cinnamon Toast Crunch.”
I sighed heavily, threw the covers off, and lifted myself out of my warm and cozy bed knowing that this was all my fault. I could have slept until 7:30 or maybe 8:00 if I would have kept my mouth shut. The previous night, I’d told Carson as I tucked him in, “Just think, sweetie! When you wake up in the morning, you can have Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast!”
MISTAKE!
I know better than to tell Carson ANYTHING like this before he goes to bed. This kind of enticement is like a little kernel of excitement that double duties as an internal alarm clock. 7:00 AM sharp!
I’ve mostly learned my lesson.
I’m also trying (unsuccessfully) to train Tate to keep his trap shut and not give Carson any ideas before bed. Last night while tucking Carson into bed, Tate said to him, “Make sure you tell Mommy that you want to drive your monster truck tomorrow while I’m at work!”
This morning at 7:01 AM, I was awakened by Carson shouting that he was ready to go drive his monster truck.
Not that I’m vindictive or anything, but I’m thinking the perfect revenge will be to plant the idea of Chuck E. Cheese in Carson’s head the night before I leave Tate in charge of the kids while I go to Nashville for Blissdom.

I think that is a brilliant idea!
I soooo would!!!
My 2 yo remembers stuff like that too. We once told him that in the morning when he woke up, he’d go on a bike ride with Daddy. at 4:30 AM when he woke up, he got us and said “BIKE!” We now say “when the sun wakes up.”
I find it funny that you said you were trying to “train” your husband.
Your post actually sounds like something out of a sitcom.

Planting the idea of Chuck E. Cheese right before leaving town is GENIUS. Cue evil laughter now. Bwa-ha-ha-ha!
Ha! GREAT idea!! Training husbands takes a lot of time, but they CAN learn if the lessons or to the point and repeated frequently.
Mwahahaha – Do it!!! Do it!!!

I would give ANYTHING to my children if they stayed in bed until 7.
And your husband totally deserves. I’d even say Disney.
7 am sounds blissful. We never see 7.
I too have 2 kids who remember EVERYTHING (except rules of course) and you can’t tell them anything ahead of time.
I would totally plant the Charles E Cheese seed!!!

I just started reading your blog but the last two days have spoken so true to my life. Not sure if you have been as desperate as me…to get a few more minutes…I set my son’s clock back about 25 minutes….so I sleep until 7:30…and he thinks it is 7! Give that a try. Is it horrible?
we do the same thing with the clock…except it’s set back a half hour in PK’s room. It works well with both bedtime and naptime.
bad mom I know.

This happened to me this morning too! I went out for some retail therapy last night and apparently hubby discussed Birthday parties with our son because he all about party, cake and balloons this morning!
Luckily…my kids are still in their cages and can’t escape when they wake up!

I do that, too. So that they’ll go to sleep already. But lucky for me, they usually forget. See you soon!!
Now that’s my kind of retaliation! Make him demand HOURS of Yo Gabba Gabba too!
You’re my hero.
I need to try the clock thing….my son comes in my room anywhere from 5:40 a.m. to 7, climbs in bed, and demands to watch Max and Ruby. As if being woken up wasn’t bad enough.
oh that’s fantastic! sounds like a plan.
and that Sarah up there is a genius. i’ll have to remember that in a few years…

My friends say I’m lucky because my son won’t come in my room if mommy is sleeping. He knows, if he wakes up before me, and my alarm did not go off, then DO NOT DISTURB. He is 5 1/2 now and he has been like this since we put him in his big boy bed at the age of 2! Now his little brother who is 2 1/2, well, he’s another story.
He will wake up and sit in his bed, but he will call out for me.
Luckily, my older one, will just go into his room and keep him company till I get up, but at that point, I’m awake, so, oh well.
Don’t ever promise your kids anything before you know if you can do it. THEY WILL REMEMBER AND REIMIND YOU!! My husband always forgets that too.
Blessing,
JD
Good to know I’m not the only one who has a child stare them awake in the morning. It’s creepy, isn’t it?

Of course you should do that. It’s HILARIOUS. Mine remembers things from DAYS ago, and wakes up asking to go play at “that place where there is a school bus and a police car! Let’s go there again mommy!”

Okay, how do you get him to sleep ALL THE WAY UNTIL 7?? Cause I haven’t slept that late in about 4 years. Also, my son has that same crazy memory. FUN
I have the same problem and my son doesn’t even speak complete sentences yet. They have minds like steel traps.
When did I become so absent minded? I must have remember EVERYTHING when I was a kid too.
