Less Staff Sergeant, More Loosy Goosey

Wilderness at the Smokies

I’m a person who feels most comfortable in the confines of schedules.  Occasionally I can be sort of flexible with my scheduling.  For example, we usually eat lunch between 12 and 12:30, bedtime is between 8 and 8:30.  We go to the library either on Tuesday OR Thursdays.  See?  SO FLEXIBLE.

Wow! Your adult time sounds just like mine! Except we fall asleep on the bed watching How It’s Made – and our awkward positions are from accommodating the dog.

We go to a Wilderness resort up in the Dells every summer with Mike’s family. I love that place! The big slides are awesome – and yes – bring the grandparents so that you guys can try them out!

I’m impressed that your adult time didn’t involve your laptops! We geek out a lot at night or my husband will watch some obscure show like Ice Road Truckers.

I have heard cool things about this place…yea you for getting a family getaway! We are doing a travel review trip later this month and frankly I think moms and the travel industry are a cool match.

Your kids look so happy…it’s awesome when they’re FINALLY at that age where you’re not schlepping all the baby stuff to the pool.

We went to a waterpark just like that in southern Ohio a few years ago, when I was pregnant with Eli(We went with my parents and my sister, so there was plenty of help with Addy while I was passed out asleep half the time.) It was really fun, though it seemed like more of a vacation for kids than adults (OBVIOUSLY.) Especially when said kids are so little. So I’d like to go back to one eventually, but I’m still nervous about taking Eli. He’s the same age now as Addy was when we went before, but, um, they’re two very different children. While she was cooperative and content, he is very much acting his age these days and I can only imagine the meltdowns when we had to LEAVE the water activities. His tantrums get to Alert Level Red already just when we’re leaving the YMCA daycare!

I’ve been wondering about indoor waterparks and whether my kids were too little to enjoy … sounds like we should give it a go!

Glad you enjoyed a schedule-free weekend. Schedules are exhausting sometimes, aren’t they? I have wasted (and continue to do so) so much time and energy worrying about my kids’ naps.

That looks like huge fun, something even older teens would enjoy. With the Grans to close, I will be suggesting this as a winter holiday venue.

We drove past this place (or one like it) on our trip to the mountains this fall. We said it would be a cool place for people with kids older than ours – looked like lots of fun. Glad you enjoyed!

Wow, that place looks awesome! And good for you for being able to go with the flow. I am MUCH like you are, and I get twitchy when our schedule is compromised.

As the kids have gotten older, I’m getting more relaxed. This week is the last week of school, and hubby has been taking the girls swimming AFTER dinner. The horror!

I went to a conference at Wilderness at the Smokies a couple of months back and it looked like so much fun! I had to leave the kids and hubby at home so we didn’t enjoy the fun stuff, but I think it would be a great family trip.

There is nothing wrong with doing a pay review. I would do one today if I was offered. I actually prefer to read what you write about a review than I would if I went to a review blog. Your review to me is at least credible.

The place sounds like a blast. If my kids and I are ever in Tennessee I would definately check it out. How much would it have cost if you had paid? Was food expensive? Admission?

Bridge, I’m not sure of the actual cost of the resort, but the rate includes admission to the waterpark. Also the rooms are HUGE and have kitchenettes and/or kitchens, 2 bathrooms…

The food at the resort was a little high, but no higher than at a restaurant off the resort. I think it’s that way in any touristy place!

Woohoo! Thanks for the review. We have been debating on and on about whether we should try a place like this but with our wide age range (1-13) we weren’t sure there would be something for everyone. It definitely looks like your little ones had fun!

Now to find myself a nice little vacation place to review (with free rooms naturally).. Anyone need something reviewed in the DFW area? I’m totally heading to Texas is two weeks :)

That looks like such a blast. I didn’t know that Wilderness at the smokies had water-adventure-things. Neat!

I keep trying to convince my sister to go to Dollywood with me, or the Dollywood waterpark, but she is less than enthusiastic about the idea.

WOW! I clicked on your review to see if you enjoyed the waterpark as much as our family, and in the picture of the wave pool there are we grandparents and our family standing at the edge!! We agreed it was the BEST vacation, for “children” young and old!
