I’m throwing caution to the wind today, thumbing my nose at Murphy’s Law.
Oh alright. I can’t completely do that, I’m too superstitious. To be on the safe side, I shall employ the use of magical parentheses for this post. Also, while you’re reading this, pretend I’m whispering. Maybe Murphy won’t hear.
(Here is a picture of Carson on his first day of preschool this year.)
(Fake smile. “Hurry up mom and take the picture already. Can’t you see that there’s a farm here that’s exactly like the one I have at home, but this one is infinitely better and you and your picture taking endeavors are keeping me from playing.”)
(He didn’t even wave goodbye. Carson, the boy who last year screamed and generally acted like an out of control rabid dog when school started…both times. This is the child that I didn’t feel confident would ever get the hang of going to school and was going to be the cause of my Tums addiction.)
(Today was his third day of school and he loves, loves, LOVES going. Like a seasoned pro, he hopped right out of the car in the drop-off line, without wailing, without looking back. I don’t know what exactly is different this time versus the other two times starting school. Perhaps it’s because he’s matured or because it’s a different school or a combination of a million factors, but I wish I would have taken him out of that school last year when my gut told me that something just wasn’t right. Because now that it is right, I see just how happy and relaxed Carson should have always felt about school.)
(I can’t believe I ever doubted, even for a second, that my boy would eventually be a champ at going to school. I’m so proud of him.)

Heather, D.E. I could have sent Ella to school at the same place this year, but decided to keep her home. She is beyond devastated. Everyday she tells me that she wants “her own school.”

Maggie did the same thing to me today! It was Day #1 at a new daycare (just one day a week, kind of a daycare ’supplement’, if you will, heh) And I was convinced it would be a disaster. Turns out, she barely even waved at me when I left, she took a 90 minute nap in a new, strange place, and didn’t even want to leave when I got there.
Kids are surprising!
Hope your good luck continues!

Isn’t it a relief when our kids are both ready and find a good fit at the same time? It makes this whole parenting thing so much easier. I recently dropped my son 3,000 miles away at school. He is the same kid who cried at the beginning of preschool, the beginning of kindergarten, etc. He’s having the time of his life! It only took 18 years?

He looks so happy, I’m glad for you.
I had two years of tears and clinging with my girl, and she repeated first grade and she was a different girl on her first day of grade one (again).
It makes the day a whole lot better if you don’t have to peel a child off you in the morning.

Yeah!! My kindergartener has gone from crying and refusing to get out of the car on the first day to just a whimper and slow walk.
My preschooler is still crying at drop off. I’m hoping it gets better.
