She needs the helmet

She needs the helmet

One of the reasons I purposely had babies 18 months apart was because I hoped they’d be close friends and playmates growing up.

Ella has never really had the chance to be a princess loving girly girl. Her favorite things are tractors, trains, and monster trucks, just like her big brother, Carson. Really, I think it’s a good thing that they like the same things. So far, they are the close friends I wanted them to be.

Of course, Ella has had to learn to be tough, having Carson as her brother. Helmets, when playing with Carson, are usually a pretty good idea.

(Not pictured: Carson pushing Ella into a bush, running full speed.) (Also not pictured: Ella getting right back up and begging Carson to do it again.)

I grew up in a neighborhood of all boys. I hung out with my brother and his friends. I still have trouble relating to girly girls … and I still have males as my closest friends. I’d say your daughter is a very lucky little girl! : )

I always wanted a big brother to play with. She’s a lucky girl! And they’re both so cute :)

My two are the same – most of the time. There is 15 months between them and they are now 15 and 14. Only my girl is the older.

I just hope and pray that the connection remains for the rest of their life.

So cute!!! Nothing makes me happier than seeing my 3 play together. It’s the best thing in the world.

They make an adorable (if not dangerous) pair!
My 2.5 yr old’s idea of fun is to purposely crash her tricycle. (How hard is it to tip a tricycle? Apparently not that hard. She lays it out like a beach blanket).
Her big brother’s idea of fun is to follow close behind on his bike until she crashes. And then veer off at the last minute in a ill-fated game of tricycle chicken.
So. They BOTH put those helmets to good use.

I too, had mine 18 months apart (they are now 2.5 and 15 mos) for the same reason – both boys! And I think my second has no other choice than to be tough! My oldest, I really don’t believe he feels any pain, which makes it tough on me to see him beating on his little brother – but hoping one day soon, my youngest will just pop him one! :-) Waiting for the day that both can hold their own, then I am just going to let them go at it :-) !

My two youngest are 18 mo apart and a boy and girl, like yours. My daughter was tougher than the boys put together, because they made her that way. :) It took about two weeks of playing with the boys in kindergarten, for her to realize that the girls were having a lot of fun, too! She then “turned” into a girl and loved dolls, frilly things, etc…It was a cute transformation to watch. However at home she was still “one of the guys” and loved her brothers fiercely. She is now 18 and her “close” brother is almost 20. They are and always have been VERY close. Which makes me so happy!

Just wait, she’ll hit that girly stage sooner or later. And you’ll wish she didn’t. Gah, if I never step on another Barbie doll again it will be way too soon. Then again, those little army figures aren’t exactly fun to step on either.

I posted a very similar thing today, in regards to my 2 boys and little girl. My kids are 5 (although he has a birthday coming up within days), 3 and 1. I, too, wanted them close in age so they would have each other to play with and, hopefully, always be close with. My 1 and only brother is 7 years older than me. While we’ve always gotten along, we’ve also never been really close.

There’s a lot of numbers in this comment.

Cute! Reminds me of my boy/girl twins playing together. My daughter can get down and dirty with the best of ‘em.
Our girls will have the best of both worlds

My daughter is 20 months younger than my son, and I have a feeling she’s going to be in a very similar situation to your daughter very soon! she just watches her brother very intently as destroys the house and terrorizes the cats. I can practically see her taking mental notes.

Good idea on the helmet :)

    love this photo!

Mine, are not the best of friends being a bit over 3 years apart. They do get along, but playmates they are not. It kind of makes me wish that they were a bit closer so that I could have photos like this, altho that would mean that I would have had to plan…ahem.

Great photo! I love their expressions!

When my older son refers to his little brother as his “best friend,” I melt and think maybe I am doing something right or just really lucky.

I got two girls, but they don’t seem to be the best of friends like I want them to be. I know they love each other, but they bicker to no end 90% of the time. That other 10% are the times I live for! I hold out hope that they will come to their senses as they get older and realize that it’s them against the world…that sticking together is the best way to do it.
