Carson finished all his dinner and immediately inquired about dessert. We don’t usually have dessert after dinner, but I’d just bought a jar of Nutella and was excited to see why people think it’s a gift straight from God Himself.
“I know just the thing!” I said as I jumped up from the table and went on a hunt in my pantry for the Nutella and something to accompany it.
(Which, by the way, the Nutella jar recommend spreading it on whole wheat toast and there’s just something…well…I don’t know, kind of ICK about that. I like my toast to be toast like, with butter or maybe jam.)
“Graham crackers! Perfect!” I called from the pantry to the children.
Their replies were mixed, as Carson sneered and Ella cheered with delight. “I LOVE crackers!”
As I spread the Nutella on the graham crackers, Carson stared inquisitively.
“Is that chocolate?” he asked, his eyes wide with excitement now that the possibility of chocolate was involved.
“Sort of,” I explained. “It’s Nutella.”
Apparently he misunderstood and asked, “Why can’t you tell me?”
This went on for several exchanges.
“It’s Nutella.”
“Why can’t you tell me?”
“It’s Nutella.”
“Why can’t you tell me?”
“IT’S NUTELLA!”
“BUT WHY CAN’T YOU TELL ME?!”
(Carson, thank you for giving me things to write about. xoxo, mommy)

Ha! That’s great.
Both of my girls have nut allergies, and it makes me sad that they may never taste Nutella. Such a loss.
.-= LZ´s last blog ..Before you ask, let me tell you… =-.
At a party the other night, someone brought Nutella on nutty whole grain bread and it was quite good.
Here are my thoughts on Nutella’s advertising propaganda that’s it’s actually a nutritious thing to serve one’s kids: http://www.multimindingmom.com/2009/10/foodie-friday-nutella-for-breakfast.html
Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s quite delicious, but nutritious? Um, no.
.-= Leighann´s last blog ..Diaper Not-So-Dandy =-.
Yeah, the nutritious claims? Kind of reaching, aren’t they!?
it all depends on your point of view. if it is spread on a whole grain bread or a fruit, or both? then it might possibly be healthier than frosted sugar bombs. maybe.
given the choice, I’d go for the nutella, whole grain & fruit. (or better yet, chocolate peanut butter, see below)
Hilarious!! That’s awesome – it is wonderful that the kids give us things to write about (and laugh about)

Too funny!
Nutella was a staple in my lunchbox as a child – chocolate sandwiches – genius!
After putting somebody back to bed for millionth time this afternoon, I sat down and read this and had a good laugh. I love kids (even when they wont stay in bed).
Who’s on first?
(That’s awesome.)

It was really delicious! Someone on twitter (@gsbminivan) said that it’s great for a Nutella, Peanut Butter, Banana sandwich.
OMG I’m laughing OUT LOUD – That is hilarious!
My son heard a report on the radio about Asperger’s Syndrome and started asking me all these questions. As I was fumbling about trying to explain it, he suddenly went “OH! I see. I thought it was a restaurant and I wondered why they’d name it THAT.” (Say “Aspergers” out loud and you’ll see what he means. He thought it was a burger joint. Ewww.)
.-= amy2boys´s last blog ..If you look away for just a minute… =-.
I have to admit that when I was in college and just starting to learn about autism, I was SO CONFUSED about Asperger’s syndrome. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why people called it that!
LOL! Aww bless him! hehe

So how was the Nutella? I’ve heard great things about it, too, but have yet to convince myself to buy & try some.

It was really good. I don’t totally love sweets, but I liked this because of it’s nutty flavor.
That is so hilarious! I love kids.

Love this. Don’t you wish sometimes you could be in their heads and hear things the way they do?
By the way, I won’t let Nutella into my home. The one time I bought it, I found myself sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night for a spoonful. It’s like crack to me.

That is why I love living in Europe, that is all they pretty much use here for chocolate products. We will go to markets and festivals and get freshly made crepes with Nutella and bananas…..to die for!

I made crepes the other night. After the kids had eaten and left the room I made a Nutella crepe just for me. Yum!
That is a fantastic exchange.
You have to tell us what they thought of the manna from the heavens. I cannot keep the stuff in my home because I will stand at the counter with a spoon eating it straight from the jar.
Great blog! Glad I’ve found you!

My sister eats nutella. I don’t get it. Not a big fan.

Nutella is AWESOME. Hazelnuts and Chocolate? Divine! On pretzels? Great PMS food. I totally blame my parents for introducing me to it. They discovered it when they lived in Italy for two years.

it is good on toast, like peanut butter on toast, except, chocolate. it is also good on nuttella & banana sandwiches
Even better, here is a company which makes chocolate peanut butter! This stuff is fantastic. I was buying it at wholefoods, but it wasn’t on the shelf this week. I hope only sold out, not discontinued.

[...] I fully blame those damn kids of mine for this post and why I’m going to talk about Nutella for the second time in less than a week. [...]
I meant to write this earlier but I just went to Dunkin Donuts here in Germany and they have Munchkins filled with Nutella. They are AWESOME!
.-= Jamie´s last blog ..The Big 3 =-.
Donuts filled with Nutella????? I might just have to visit Germany. Or see if maybe I could convince my local DD to make me some!
Nice nice! I’ve had Nutella on whole wheat a few times and liked it; especially Home Pride. Also, as a sandwich with peanut butter. Yesh!
You’ve reminded me that I’ve been meaning to blog about the bread pudding I made with Nutella last year. SO yummeh. ;p
.-= Al_Pal´s last blog ..Sensitivity: I have it. =-.
Apparently Nutella IS from Italy, but maybe just the jar I bought was made in Canada? I don’t know, I should probably Google it.
Bread pudding with Nutella sounds A.Maz.Ing.
You know in France they have Nutella snack-packs. One side has the Nutella and the other side has cracker sticks that you can use to dip into the Nutella. But of course, even though they sell it, you’ll still get funny looks if you show up at school with that (and not whole wheat bread with a strip of dark chocolate inside and clementine wedges). What you eat is cultural property in France.
