We had a sometimes lovely, sometimes [redacted] Labor Day weekend. If only my real life was as peaceful and serene as this picture might lead one to believe.
I certainly do dig these moments.
Other things I dig:
Iced tea with extra lemon in my favorite cup.
Netflix.
Lost (Thank you Netflix Instant Queue!). I regret not watching this show when it was on, because now I don’t have anyone to talk to about it and there is a LOT to talk about. I spent the summer catching up. So far I’ve watched Seasons 1 through 4. It’s sad and exciting that there are only 2 more seasons. Also, I would totally make-out with Sawyer if I weren’t married. I have no idea why I have a thing for a lying, dirty, murdering sleazeball, I just do.
Great books. I’ve read some duds so far this year, but some of the books I’ve read have been hard to put down, like World War Z (thanks to Mr. Lady for the recommendation), My Life in France
(oh Julia Child! You make me want to be brave and travel and experience LIFE), and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
(Love, LOVE.)
Mondays (or Tuesdays, as was the case this week), when Tate goes back to work. What? I’m just being honest. We just get along better during the week, that’s all.
My back to dark brown hair. It makes me feel like a rocker chick. Of course I’m a rocker chick who loves Alice in Chains, but probably wouldn’t change the radio station if Peabo Bryson or Toto came on. I also kind of want a nose ring, it just seems like it would go with my whole “rocker chick” look. It’s unlikely to happen since I’d worry about what my friends would say and what the people at Carson and Ella’s VERY, VERY, OH SO VERY conservative Christian preschool would think. Hey, you can still love Jesus and be a faux rocker chick, I think. Anyway, I look nothing like a rocker chick in the picture below, I look so prim and proper!
(Here’s a before picture showing my summer highlights. I made sure to pick a really terrible, after working out picture to make the picture of me above seem really good.)
My children being in school. This probably should have been first on my list because I love them being in school even more than I thought I would.
Roasted pine nut hummus.
My new Canon 50D and lens
. I know that a good photographer does not a camera make, but it does make me feel more serious and quasi-professional (albeit unpaid and without any prospects of a photography business, but still.)
The redecorating job I did on my kitchen without spending a dime. I simply rearranged and repurposed things that I already had. I’m loving the results. (A before picture would be pretty handy right about now.)
Anything that you’re digging right now? How was your Labor Day weekend? Anyone else catching up on Lost and wanna talk about it?
(Psst, some of the links above are affiliate links. Yeah, yeah, yeah, what of it?)

Dude, that is one incredible camera setup. How in the world did you get your hubs to agree to that purchase? Tell me the secret so I can use it on my husband. Does it involve any “special faovrs”?
.-= Texan Mama´s last blog ..Hair Therapy =-.
I’m sure he would have appreciated some “special favors” and I’m sure it was in the back of his mind.
I saved my pennies from blog earnings and birthdays and couch cushions to buy the lens. Tate surprised me with the camera. (I think he felt guilty since he’s purchased enough guns to fill an arsenal in the past year.)
Well, I’m definitely diggin’ your kitchen. Gorgeous! Wow! That is a serious camera. Have fun with it. I shall now wipe the drool off my chin. I’m torn which I’d rather have more, the kitchen or the camera? Hmmm…
I, too, am known to enjoy Monday mornings when hubby’s back to work. Things just run better when he’s not here. That’s bad, isn’t it? Shhhh, don’t tell.
Congrats on the camera. Very cool.
Definitely diggin the book recommendations. I love a good read.
I’m digging your szechwan (sp?) green beans. I made a huge batch of them last night and everyone complained there weren’t more. Yup, they’re that good. Thanks for the recipes you post.
I love the dark hair. You look great.
I never could get into Lost. But I definitely relate to getting into something just when everyone else has left it behind.
.-= Mom24@4evermom´s last blog ..Smile-WW =-.
I’m so glad you like the green beans! I haven’t made them in awhile since the last time I made them I burned them.
Love, love, love the new haircolor! It looks fabulous! I think I may be ready for a change as well, hmmm…
And I think a nose-ring is perfectly appropriate to complete your look.
I love you with dark hair. Don’t change a thing, yo!
I also love that you have the 50D and 24-70mm f/2.8!!
.-= Secret Agent Mama – Mishi´s last blog ..Weekly Winners Cars and Beers =-.
My brother has that lens. And it is fabulous. I get lens envy anytime we have our cameras out together.

Your hair looks great, the kitchen looks great…..good read..good times.
OHHHH your kitchen is drool worthy. Mine is circa 1968 remodeled in late 80s badness and bad in a bad way, not a cool rocker chick way!
I love the photo of your family.
We discovered LOST just before last season so we had to race and watch the first five seasons before season six started. There were days we had LOST marathons and watched 3 episodes in a row. I miss those days. It was awesome.

My husband was out of town last week and I made it through most of season 4…it was glorious! Love LOST marathons.
your hair looks great! and mmmmmm on the extra lemon
.-= MommyNamedApril´s last blog ..They Did It! =-.
I love your dark hair! and I love your kitchen..and I LOVE Lost!
We just finished watching season five and are awaiting season six on netflix.. and I would “do” Sawyer, too!
LOVE the hair, that first picture is gorgeous, and I also adored The Guernsey Literary etc… pie book. It is so wonderful.
Two questions. How did you score a 50D? I just scored an expensive lens and I’m feeling like I can’t ask for any camera equipment for like, years maybe.
Also, where are your appliances? Your kitchen is beautiful! Mine would look good too if I had a pantry twice the size of my current one to stash the stand mixer, toaster, espresso machine, coffee machine, knife block, charging station, etc… CLUTTER. But we use all that stuff!
.-= amy2boys´s last blog ..Dear Sam =-.
I saved and saved for the lens. Actually I couldn’t decide between the lens and the camera body. I finally decided to get the lens since there was nothing wrong with my camera. Tate surprised me and got the 50D.
I would feel that I shouldn’t ask for anymore equipment if my husband wasn’t always buying expensive things for his gun hobby. My camera stuff costs the same or less than his gun stuff, so we’re even!
My countertop appliances are all stowed away either in my giant pantry or in my abundant cabinet space. I’m lucky to have a lot of storage. I’m getting a stand mixer soon and I might have to display it because it’s too pretty to store.
LOVE the darker hair – makes your eyes pop more. I also have camera envy – *sigh*…and cabinet envy *double sigh* – can’t wait to see the magic you make with your new camera!
.-= Domestic Chicky´s last blog ..Guess where =-.
1. That first photo is lovely.
2. We’re reading Gurnsey Literary whatever-whatever potato pie etc book for book club this month, and the ladies are not enthused. Ah, neither was I until I saw that you loved it. Now, I’m enthused! Thanks!
3. I have camera envy.
4. I have kitchen envy.
That is all.
.-= Marie Green´s last blog ..State of the State =-.
I hope you like the Guernsey whatever book…I’ve recommended it to two other people who thought it was dull and boring! They’re WRONG, WRONG, WRONG in my opinion. Once you get past the first 10 or so letters, I think the books gets easier to read and the story really opens up. I loved the characters.
Your hair looks beautiful!! World War Z is one of the most fun books I’ve read in recent memory. LOVED it.

“Also, I would totally make-out with Sawyer if I weren’t married. I have no idea why I have a thing for a lying, dirty, murdering sleazeball, I just do.”
Um, because he’s totally freakin’ hot!

Sorry, TEAM JACK all the way.
While a camera does not make the photographer, there is a marked improvement in sharpness and clarity in your photos since the switch over. You already rocked the composition and inspiration. The camera just takes it to the next level.
I’d love to hear how you like the 24-70. I am a prime girl so I got the 50mm 1.2 in March and it should be illegal how much I love that lens.
.-= LauraC´s last blog ..Proof that we are hella awesome parents =-.
Well if someone put a gun to my head and said I had to make out with Jack, I’d do it without complaint. I just think his character is a bit pompous. I’m attracted to murderers who are no good losers, not noble, smart, cocky doctors.
I LOVE my 24-70. I was worried that it would be too heavy as an everyday carry around lens. I haven’t found it to be a problem at all. I have the 50mm 1.4, and considered myself a prime girl, too, until I got the 24-70. I actually haven’t even tried my 50mm on my new camera yet!
And the 50mm 1.2!!! YOWSA!
I too read World War Z and really liked it! I think you’re the only other person I’ve seen that has even read it
P.S. I have a nose ring. I too channel my inner faux-rawker chick. I don’t care what people think, so there!
The only thing plurk was ever good for was discussions during Lost. It was REALLY REALLY good for that, especially since I could publicly (sort of) yell, “WE NEED MORE SHIRTLESS SAWYER!” So, um, yeah.
Anyway.

Welcome, Kathryn!
I watched the entire series of LOST while it was on. I would gladly chat with you anytime about it.
Diggin’ the darker hair. I’m going in next week to darken up for fall. Nervous.
And… totally have camera envy. Someday I will buy myself a big girl camera. I will.

I finished the last episode of Lost through swollen eyes and tear-stained cheeks! I’m jealous that you still have two seasons to go and everything is still a mystery. (If I’m being honest, it’s still sort of a mystery to me too, but I L-O-V-E-D the ending.) I’d run away with Jack Shepherd if my hubby let me!
I just watched the last two episodes of Season 4 where Sawyer jumped out of the helicopter and Jin died. I cried tears of JOY when Sawyer appeared on the beach and wailed when Jin died.
Since I saw LOST was on the instant play I’ve been considering watching it. If you don’t mind talking to me as I catch up, I’m game!!
What I’m digging? My renewed attempt at project 365. Doing my girls hair in cute styles. Having alone time for a change
.-= Sarah´s last blog ..Dreams Change… =-.
I’d be happy to talk about LOST. You better get watchin’ girlie!
I am so camera clueless that I cannot appreciate your set-up, but I am happy for you and always enjoy your photos (and your food styling in the recipe posts). I would not think I would like a book called World War Z, but I enjoyed the other two books you mentioned a lot so I’m willing to trust you and give it a try! Your hair totally ROCKS. And, can I just say that I could not be more envious of your clean and uncluttered island.
.-= mep´s last blog ..Free FALLing! =-.
LOVE the dark brown hair. Beautiful!
And I never missed an episode of Lost. One of the best shows ever, in my opinion. Glad you’re on board!

Oddly enough? I am totally wanting to start watching Lost! You might have just inspired me to be as lazy as possible while watching them all!
.-= Joie´s last blog ..Yeah- I know! =-.
I’m thisclose to getting my nose pierced. Was going to do it this weekend but figured it would be best to wait until after potential job interview. Considering one of those teeny tiny ones so it doesn’t scream middle age crisis, which is what somebody already said when I mentioned I was contemplating one. Honey, I wanted to say, I’ve been thinking about it for YEARS!!! Even my son is thinking I should just go for it…
I love your kitchen and your hair.
P.S. That sounded like a note from high school, didn’t it? Except swap out “Outback Red” sweater for “kitchen.”

i miss LOST! but i warn you- season 4 is probably where it stops being normal (ha!)

and i can’t wait to hang out on goodreads today with your book suggestions. thanks!

AGAIN, I am jealous of your kitchen. I remember going into your old one and trying to figure out how I could steal it. But this one is awesome! Come help me rearrange mine… and install granite, and backsplash, k?

I as well finally watched Lost over the summer to see what all the hype was about!! It was fantastic, I have watched season 1-4 as well and a couple of season 5 but im trying to draw it out so it doesnt have to end so quickly for me! And yes Sawyer is such the diry hottie!!!
very nice blog, keep it up.
