They wore their helmets

We don’t waste these gorgeous fall days.  Sunshine and warmth tucked between the rain and gloom, Carson and Ella rode their bikes on chalk outlined race courses.  Around and around.  Everyone gets a chance to win.

In our front yard, they ride, hoping the neighbor kids will see them and come play, too.  A whole gaggle of bike riding kids with their sweaty heads in helmets.  I get to be the kool-aid wench.  It’s all so much fun, until it’s time to go inside for dinner, bath, and bedtime.  Promises are made to play again tomorrow, sometimes through tears, sometimes with eager waves.

Didn’t someone say once that parting is such sweet sorrow?

Those are perfect days when I’m happy to live on a street filled with other kids.

Can Carson teach my kid to ride without training wheels? She is TERRIFIED to try.

Send her over! He got the 1st grader who lives across the street to try it. Now the only one with training wheels is Ella.

We moved away from Alabama. Knoxville is where we live now and the weather has been so nice!

That photo is so adorable. A kid on a bike with a big helmet is the official image of childhood.

I would think the bedazzling on your daughter’s bike would attract all kinds of other kids to play. Those streamers are the best.

Three cheers for outdoor play! I can’t help but feel it’s a dying art among children. I know parents that will do just about anything with their kids to avoid a mosquito bite, sunburn or risk of a broken arm. Which means, in some communities, we’ve got a whole generation of people being raised indoors.

I swoon for endless days where our cul de sac feels crowded because all of the kids -even the ones that were once too little- are out riding.

Also? The kool aid wench? Hee! :)

    This is lovely.
